Missing Regulus 2 features

  • In Regulus 2 there is an option to show the post author on the main page. I did not see this when I checked the admin options and I’m curious to as why it was removed. I have a multi-author blog and this feature helped.

There’s also an option to not show the read more link on the main page. That too is missing.

  • In addition to what carlbanks mentioned, one of the main feaures of Regulus that is, in my opinion, lacking, is the ability to note on each post which category it is in. There is a sidebar ‘categories’ container that is just as useful, but it is nice to see “posted in _____” on the post itself.

This is a very small gripe about a great theme- thanks for the customizabiliy! We great appreciate it.

  • The read more thing was removed because it was causing a ton of support requests, no one really understood it and they thought their site was broken.

I don’t know about the author thing, we can check it out later.

  • Dang, that read more option was one thing I actually liked seeing.

  • I would consider ‘Read More’ one of those essential features … maybe it could be included as a check-box option under the Theme Options?
If it’s set ot ‘off’ by default, then it won’t cause confusion for newbies.

  • i think the current status is fine. I like Regulus 2. thanks to Matt.

  • I still can not see the “Author Name” Option. And the default “read more” turned on gives a stupid look to my website, because I pulish the full post on the main page.

  • Jayajha, Matt and the team haven’t turned those features back on yet. They will soon though, I hope!

  • Ah! My mistake. I mis-interpreted hi2005’s post. But, this “no one really understood…” argument is little risky. Can I see a parallel with the recently oft-cited statement of Torvalds on Gnome vs. KDE

This ‘users are idiots, and are confused by functionality’ mentality of Gnome is a disease. If you think your users are idiots, only idiots will use it. I don’t use Gnome, because in striving to be simple, it has long since reached the point where it simply doesn’t do what I need it to do. Please, just tell people to use KDE.

    :)

  • My statements are based on # of support feedback we get.

  • Well, in the hemmingway theme the excerpt is still in. And isn’t it possible to make it optional, like britta said.

A standard excerpt is one of the most missing features in WordPress, yet, for me.

  • Well with Hemingway that’s the only way the theme works, and it’s a little clearer that it’s an excerpt.

  • AFAIK the excerpt using the <!–most–> tag should still work fine

The problem is that images and other formatting got removed which people consider a problem. If anyone knows a better way to display excerpts (I’m using the excerpt reloaded plugin) feel free to speak up.

  • Well, as as far as I know, the ER Plugin is the only one, that makes this possible. But couldn’t you allow some of the html tags, such as for images etc.? So you could allow the most needed html tags, like a blockquote img etc.

Someone should overwork the plugin. It’s great, but it’s development stopped. Update it and include it in WordPress and WordPress.com ;-)

  • I still can not see the “Author Name” Option. And the default “read more” turned on gives a stupid look to my website, because I pulish the full post on the main page.

    seconded,

i also would like to see the author and category posted in like the original post.

at least offer it as an option with default off.

  • i started a group blog recently, and am very happy with my move from blogger–and particularly to regulus 2. a couple of things i’m missing (some of which were here when i arrived, some of which have already been mentioned here):

    1. setting an excerpt or max number of lines to each post. i see both options in the template but neither actually works. if they did, i could have multiple posts within a limited space. (and the “read more” doesn’t look stupid).

    2. the categories and/or author on the original page. as someone else said, this is very useful for a group blog.

    3. having multiple category lists. since the authors aren’t clickable (i.e., i can’t see all posts by one author), the alternative is to create categories for each author. that would look better if i could put it in a separate category list (mirroring the multiple blogroll lists).

if these options can’t be made available through regulus or wordpress, would moving to a paid site be the solution?

    thanks!

  • if these options can’t be made available through regulus or wordpress, would moving to a paid site be the solution?

Errr… isn’t that always the option if you can’t get everything you want for free?

  • if these options can’t be made available through regulus or wordpress, would moving to a paid site be the solution?

You may want to try emailing the author first though with your suggestions since that’s who would be making those changes.

  • Yeah, I agree it is better to show ‘category’ in Regulus 2.

And, how to show excerpt only in main page? I am using Regulus 2 and don’t know how to achieve it. I found one blog http://sysop.wordpress.com/ is ok.

  • I knew how to show excerpt only in main page, by use more tag.

I still hope to show ‘category’ in Regulus 2, or anyone knows how to?
