Modifying Recent Comments Widget

  1. I'm using the Recent Comments widget that comes with the WordPress.com JetPack. Am not that impressed with it and am compelled to modify the recent-comments.php file.

On my site (www.earnyourturns.com) what it displays now is the "comment-author ON post-title" in the R sidebar. It displays recent comments and pingbacks and trackbacks. I want to show recent comments ONLY, no pingbacks or trackbacks. Does anyone know how to change the code in the recent-comments.php file to achieve this? I think I know what line to change, but not what to change it to.

And while I'm at it, I'd rather show the comment author followed by the first 50 or so characters of the actual comment, not the post it is related to. For an example of what I want to show, see http://www.wildsnow.com in the inside R sidebar.

    Thanks for your help.

  3. Didn't know that hosting at wp.com was required. Excuse the misunderstanding - didn't realize the membership requirements for this club were so particular.

  4. The SOFTWARE is what's particular. Answers that apply to WP.com do not apply to WP.org.
