Monochrome theme questions

  1. Hey guys, I'm currently using the Monochrome theme.

    Here is my blog:

    http://www.araey.wordpress.com

I was wandering with this white background, if it is possible to change it so that i am able to put a logo in the background?

If not is it at least possible to make the columns wider so they fill more of the whitish background? I just find it has alot of empty space that could be used.

I don't know anything about changing the coding so if it something that i need to do, any help would be great.

    Many thanks,

    Andrew

The blog I need help with is araey.wordpress.com.

  2. It's not possible to make these changes without the CSS upgrade and a good working knowledge of CSS. Don't just buy it and expect someone here to tell you how to work it; there are very few CSS volunteers.

Experiment first, using the free CSS editor preview. When you can do what you want to your satisfaction, then buy the upgrade.

  3. I wasnt 'expecting' anyone to do the work for me. I was just wandering if anyone could be helpful enough to give me some info to as how to start. I did look up CSS stuff on google, and tried the preview thing for about 2 hours. Every time i hit preview nothing had changed.

If you cant ask for help here what is the point of the forums?

  4. No, what I mean is, there are only about two people here who even KNOW the answers to those kinds of questions, so if that is really the level of support you are looking for, it's not worth paying for the upgrade. We see too many people who buy it, then can't do anything with it.

  5. I'll post this from a true CSS guru and it really is the crux of learning CSS.

    atthe404 on CSS:

There is no trick. But doing CSS requires an understanding of the markup (xhtml). There is no way round that. The CSS applies styles to stuff. To what stuff depends on the markup. So number one read the source (View Source). Get used to it. Feel comfortable with it. Two. Understand what the heck selectors actually are. Different cats of selectors behave in different ways. SO: this is counter intuitive. To understand the CSS do not start in CSS. Start in the xhtml. Then see how they relate. Its all there. :)
There are gazillions of CSS tutorials on line.

  6. Which white background are you talking about? The area to the left and right of the content area, or the white background within the content area?

  7. Hey thanks for the reply. I should have been more clear. I was meaning the area to the left and right of the content. More specifically the left.

I was hoping to put this graphic in the area left of the content.

:) tyvm for that source. It looks rather daunting hehe

  8. @raincoaster Ah i see i misunderstood your OP. Apologies :)

  9. So, you are wanting a single occurrence of the ink splat with the bird silhouette in it at upper left, near your blog title, is that correct?

  10. Im wanting the entire graphic. So the bird splt, the rss splat, the wordpress splat and the youtube one, with the Text at the top just as it is on my twitter. Basically the exact way it is on twitter is what i want to mimick in the same area on my wordpress blog.

  11. i just found out something hehe. If you are only seeing the bird splat, try extending the web window to as wide as you can and you will see the entire graphic. Srry for the confusion i didnt know it could hit half of my graphic depending on the window size lol

  12. I'm getting an error when trying to view that facebook image. It says it is temporarily unavailable, and I can't see the whole graphic on the twitter page. It is covered up by other stuff.

Upload the graphic to your media library on your blog here and then post the URL to that file. It appears to be rather large, so it may take quite a bit of work, and may end up looking funky on the blog. You might have to do some redesign in order for it to look right.

  13. OK, I just widened my browser. Go to your blog main page and widen and narrow your browser window. See how the white area at the left and right get wider and narrower? For most people viewing your blog, you will have the same issue as on the twitter page. Everything will be hidden by the content area.

I would suggest you resize them and then put them in image widgets in your sidebar. What you want to do isn't really going to work well for many visitors since even with their browser window maximized, they won't be able to see the graphics, or they will be cut off.

  14. I understand, and your right. However im not sure what you mean by this:

I would suggest you re size them and then put them in image widgets in your sidebar.

Resize the graphic in photoshop? And what are image widgets? When i looked under my widget options, i didn't see anything like this.

  15. nvm i just figured it out thanks so much!

  16. You're welcome and glad you got it figured out.
