Moving a blog — which method moves widgets too?

  1. I want to move my blog from my current wordpress address to another wordpress address so I can repurpose the original address. I found two methods: "Moving a Blog" transfers an XML file. "Changing a Blog Address" renames the blog's url.

I tried Moving via XML first. It moved quickly and completely except for the header and widgets. These can be fixed but a couple widgets that were site visit counters will start over and I'd rather them not. If i instead use the Changing method, will these and other widgets transfer? Is there any advantage to moving by one way or the other? Thanks!

The blog I need help with is brianbutko.wordpress.com.

  2. None. Widgets are not exportable.

  3. i just renamed my blog. Gave it a new address. I chose not to eliminate the old name in the process, thinking I could do that later once I was sure everything was sticking with my new address.
My blog now shows up with the new name, at the right address, which is good, but the personal icon only appears next to the old name, and that web address shows no content at all.
i tried going back into myblog settings to get rid of that old address, but it is no longer an option unless I want to get yet another new name. How do I get rid of the old address and user name so my icon will switch to the new address and prevent people from landing on the old one?
My site is private. Don't know if you can see it.
