   I own a domain name. It is currently managed by another provider. I want to keep the domain name, but have it managed at WordPress (to sit on WP servers, in other words). How do I make this switch without losing control of the domain name?

   @raincoaster. Thanks very much. But is there not a way to completely drop the company that currently manages the domain, and then take the domain to WordPress (or anywhere else)? Surely, there is a way to do this. No?

   You can transfer the domain name to another registrar - there are many out there - WordPress.COM is not able to transfer domain registrations into their system -
