Moving main menu to the side

  1. I am trying to remove the main menu from the top and want to move into my sidebar area. is this possible to do? I currently have it on the bottom but fear it will get lost.
I have Categories however this does not give the options I have and want in the Menu. I used the widget however it does not give the popout or hover menu items and lists all of them
    Thank you in advance.

  2. If you go to Appearance > Menu and create and save a blank menu and the assign that menu to the Primary menu location, it will disappear from the top of your site.

You can then create a new Custom Menu and use the Custom Menu Widget in your sidebar.

  3. Thanks I will work on that. the menu widget is nice but was hoping for categories and sub categories. The Menu widget has all the items listed on the front. this looks like the direction I will have to follow.

    Thank you

  4. You can add categories and such to the Custom Menu in the menu widget, but they will not be a submenu dropdown/flyout type of thing, just an indented ordered list sort of thing.

Moving and configuring the top menu to the sidebar area and then getting the menus to flyout properly and stay positioned properly is huge amounts of work on responsive width themes such as Motif. To do it properly would require editing of the theme PHP script files, and we cannot do that at WordPress.com.

  5. And you are welcome. :)

  6. That is what I thought.
    thank you very much.
