Moving my domain to another site

  1. Hello! I am frustrated. :(

I entered into the dsn file to transfer the domain I just purchased (browneyedchef.com) to squarespace and it says it can't until november. Need an authorization of some kind. Could you please help? If I cancel it, can I buy it again??? I purchased the bundle, but couldn't understand how to do this right. I really thought it was easier.

Thanks for your help. I am new to this and so frustrated. I don't understand how to do this. Thanks. I just want to use my domain in squarespace. Thanks,

The blog I need help with is browneyedchef.com.

  2. Hi there,

You can keep your domain browneyedchef.com with us and update the nameservers to point to another hosting provider by following this guide: Change name servers

After 60 days from the date of purchase or registrant contact information change, you may also transfer your domain to another registrar by following this guide: Transfer a domain to another registrar

If you want to keep using your domain, please do not cancel it. If we cancel your newly-registered domain, it can take up to several weeks for our domain registrar to release the domain, and we can't guarantee that your domain will be available to you again once canceled.

If you have any questions about this, please let me know!

  3. Hi Rach! Thanks for answering. I am about to cry. LOL

how can I change the cname file and map it over to squarespace? when i go to the dsn page, it says I can't. Am I doing something wrong?

Squarespace doesn't take nameservers... what are my options?

    Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!

  4. Sorry about that! I forgot that Squarespace doesn't take nameservers. Their domain settings are a little tricky, so I went ahead and entered them for you. You should be all set on this end.

To finish pointing your domain at Squarespace, please complete Step 3 in the instructions here: http://help.squarespace.com/customer/portal/articles/413088-mapping-a-domain-general-instructions-

Please note that it can take 48-72 hours for domain changes like this to take effect. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know!

  5. Hello!

Thanks for all the work! Thank you, thank you!

The guy at Squarespace support asked me this: "Had you transferred your domain to another domain host after leaving WordPress? If so, you may need to change the values of your name servers. Your name servers would be provided by the company responsible for hosting your domain.

Could you contact your domain host and see if they can provide you with this information?"

He says the cname and stuff is pointing correctly, but the wordpress site comes up when he enters the address.

    Can you help?

Thanks so much, again, for all your help!

  6. Hi there,

The reason why he may be seeing your WordPress.com site at your address is because of DNS propagation. That is, it can take 48-72 hours for your domain changes to take effect everywhere — in the meantime you may see your old site when you visit the domain.

Since all of the domain settings are correctly pointed to Squarespace, it may just take another day or so for everyone to see your Squarespace site when they enter the address.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions about it. :)
