Moving subscribers

  1. Hi Kraftbj,

hope this new thread finds you.
I have managed to transfer my blog http://www.hinduismforchildren.com from wordpress.com to the wordpress.org blog http://www.allabouthinduism.info

It's all gone well I think except for the moving the subscribers and followers. Can you please help me do it?

Also, the domain name has changed. How will that affect the traffic? Is there anything I can do to not lose the traffic I have?

My old blog is currently online and I want to keep it so till I am sure it's all gone smoothly.

    Many thanks,
    Anuradha

The blog I need help with is hinduismforchildren.com.

  2. Hi Anuradha,

Hi there, I transferred your followers to your new blog at http://www.allabouthinduism.info as requested. :)

Your email followers will continue to receive email updates, and your WordPress.com followers will continue to see your new posts in the Reader. If your WordPress.com followers would like to receive email updates, as well, they can subscribe via email on your new blog.

Also, the domain name has changed. How will that affect the traffic? Is there anything I can do to not lose the traffic I have?

If you'd like, you can move your old domain to your new site, as well. That way, anyone who goes to the old domain will be redirected to your new site. We have more information about moving your domain here: Move your domain to another host

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

  3. Hi there,

Thanks so much. But why can't I see them on my new site? Do I have to do something to see them?

  4. they show up on the site stats in Jetpack but on in the side bar. Also

My old site has 213 followers and new shows only 46. I am sorry if it's a stupid question but I don't understand.

  5. Hi rachel, I wanted to have my new domain name which is why I have gone through all this trouble.

Can I redirect followers to new domain ?

  6. Hi there,

Your follower count at WordPress.com includes both WordPress.com/email subscribers and social media followers via Publicize. The 213 followers you see on your WordPress.com site are from your social media followers on Twitter and Facebook. Those followers won't be counted in Jetpack, but you can set up Publicize for your new site if you want: http://jetpack.me/support/publicize/

Can I redirect followers to new domain ?

Your WordPress.com and email followers will automatically get updates from your new domain, and if you set up Publicize there your social media followers will get updates from the new domain, too.

If you want, you can also redirect visitors from your old domain to the new one. To do that, you'll need to move your domain to your new host: Move your domain to another host

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

  7. Hi Rachel,

Thank you so very much !! You are such a big help.

I think I understand about the followers. WP.com followers will get updates but won't show in my followers count.

I will get the publicize widget.

My new domain is different from the old one. Will it still work?
And is there a way to redirect people who may find the old site?

Really appreciate your help. Wondering now if shifting to .org was the right thing to do :(

    Thanks

  8. Hi there,

I think I understand about the followers. WP.com followers will get updates but won't show in my followers count.

WordPress.com followers will show in your followers count, along with email followers. However, social media followers (for example, from Facebook and Twitter) won't show in the followers count.

My new domain is different from the old one. Will it still work? And is there a way to redirect people who may find the old site?

Your new domain is already working with your new site.

If you want people who visit the old domain hinduismforchildren.com to be redirect to the new site, you can move that domain to your new website host. (You don't need to set up any other kind of redirect if you move the domain to the new host.)

  9. Ok I get it now. Sorry if I have been asking stupid questions.

I think moving my domain sounds like a good idea. can I also do it with name.wordpress.com domain?

Because hinduismforchildren.com will expire in some months. But allabouthinduism.wordpress.com will be forever.

If I can figure this out I can take the right steps.

Thanks so much for your help.

  10. Don't worry, moving blogs and domains can be confusing — I hope my explanations are helping. :)

You can't move your allabouthinduism.wordpress.com address, but you can redirect visitors who use that address by purchasing a Site Redirect upgrade here at WordPress.com. This is a yearly WordPress.com upgrade that will send visitors from your free WordPress.com address to your new domain.

Please let me know if you have any questions about that.
