Moving to a hosted site

  1. Hi everyone! My blog is femmefitaleblog.com and I am interested in having it hosted by godaddy.com because I purchased a domain there. How can I "pick up and relocate" my wordpress.com blog and move it to my godaddy.com domain and still contribute to it and review my stats, etc.?

Thank you to anyone who can assist.

The blog I need help with is femmefitaleblog.com.

  2. Both these Support docs will explain the process of moving your WordPress.com content to a self-hosted website.

But I'm not certain that is what you intend. You can use your domain name purchased at GoDaddy with your WordPress.com site without going anywhere. You would need to purchase the annually renewable Domain Mapping Upgrade to connect the two. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

  3. Hmm, JustJennifer I think you are correct. I do not think or rather I hope I do not have to necessarily move things b/c I like the wordpress.com blog features but I am intending to expand and offer FFFC apparel and from what I read on here I can't do that from the wordpress.com side of things. I would need to use the domain I purchased with godaddy for that correct?

  4. You cannot market anything you do not make yourself form your free hosted WordPress.com blog. Also note that E-commerce isn’t currently possible here at WordPress.com as our free hosted blogs cannot be equipped for ecommerce transactions at this time. If you require a site for reselling or retailing products you do not make yourself and e-commerce/shopping cart functionality, then there are no restrictions on e-commerce if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a free hosted WordPress.com blog. See here to learn the differences: http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

  5. @dstprl- yes, that is correct. timethief has given you the specifics.

  6. Thanks everyone. So given we do have plans to ecommerce and shopping cart, I want to do that with my godaddy.com which I have already purchased vs. paying for self hosted wordpress.org blog. Thanks again.

  7. You're welcome and best wishes with your WordPress.org install.
