Even though I've selected to have ten posts on the front page as my maximum, and I obviously want multiple posts on the same page, they keep appearing on separate pages (so to speak). How can I resolve this?

That's the way this theme works. You need to add the Recent Posts widget. See here for more:

Is there anyway to get the full article posted without having the reader click "read more"?
Not on that theme. It's built in that way. You may wish to try Vigilance instead.
Quoting from my post:
