Multisite question

  1. Hello all!

I need to rebuild my company's internal websites which are using WordPress and I have some questions as to how to set up the architecture that will allow me the functionality that is currently not there.

We have a main site and 5 other sites for the individual teams in our organization. This is all currently running on one machine, each with a separate instance of wordpress.

We want to be able to run a search on the main page and have it pull content from any of the other pages and vice versa. We would also want the ability to change the header image/layout of the page for certain sites.

Currently we can edit the sites how we please but the cross site search functionality is not there. If I make 1 main site and the other sites just pages on that main site we will have searching capabilities but will no longer be able to change the look of certain pages without changing all the pages.

I guess I could set up individual instances only for the sites that would be changing but not sure if that is the best option. If someone could please give me some pointers on how to set this up correctly that would be most appreciated.

    Running WP 3.2.1..

    Thank you!
