MX Record with Network Solutions

  1. The sample on wordpress for modifying MX is not similar to the information received from Network Solutions. Can you helped me out on how it should be set up. thanks. Network Solutions sent me MX record and Cname... When I attempt to enter them it deletes a portion of the mx record and also says that I have a wild card character.

The blog I need help with is terradistributing.com.

  2. Hi. What MX and CNAME information did Network Solutions give you?

  3. They sent me this and I it doesn't compare with the sample that WordPress created:

    MX Record TERRADISTRIBUTING.COM. 10 INBOUND.TERRADISTRIBUTING.COM.NETSOLMAIL.NET.

    CNAME Record MAIL.TERRADISTRIBUTING.COM. MAIL.TERRADISTRIBUTING.COM.NETSOLMAIL.NET.

    CNAME Record SMTP.TERRADISTRIBUTING.COM. SMTP.TERRADISTRIBUTING.COM.NETSOLMAIL.NET

  4. I have a similar problem. Here is EXACTLY what NS sent me:

    MX records should point to:
    inbound.yb21.org netsolmail.net

    CNAME records should point to:
    mail.yb21.org mail.yb21.org.netsolmail.net smtp.yb21.org smtp.yb21.org.netsolmail.net

When I submit the following to Custom DNS:

    MX 10 inbound.yb21.org.
    CNAME mail.yb21.org mail.yb21.org.netsolmail.net smtp.yb21.org smtp.yb21.org.netsolmail.net.

    I get this error:
CNAME records should be "CNAME <subdomain> <domain>". No wildcards (*).

    Any suggestions? Thank you!

  5. I just spoke with NS support. They have no clue as to what to put in Custom DNS on WordPress. I'm on my own. Please help!

  6. Does this help?

Can I create CNAME entries or MX records for my domain?
Yes. You can add Custom DNS records for A, CNAME, MX, and TXT records using the Custom DNS feature. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/custom-dns/

    from: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#additional-information

If it doesn't help, I do apologize and suggest you please contact Staff directly. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

  7. Thanks timethief! That was the article that @terradistributing and I were following.

    However I found this article:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/google-apps-email/

and it gives me everything I want (i.e. ability to send and receive email from mapped domain) so I am going with it. For those who need to stay with Network Solutions email, this won't work.

  8. Great news! I'm glad you figured this out. :)
