My custom header vanished

  1. My customized header just vanished! It was there the last time I looked, but aI just logged on and it is back to the generic header. Is there a way I can get my custom header back? Do I need to uload it all over again? What happened to it?

    My theme is Kubrick.

    Ilana

The blog I need help with is midlifebatmitzvah.wordpress.com.

  2. Okay, I just reloaded my image for the customized header. But I am still curious as to why it vanished.

  3. This exact same thing happened to me today too, but mine is not a custom Kubrick header, but it is a Kubrick theme too with a cool photo across the top. Grrrrrrrrrr. This is really weird. Can anyone at WordPress explain why this is happening? Your software is just deleting things?

  4. There was a report yesterday of a header disappearing on Kubrick. I don't know if staff perhaps did an update on Kubrick that caused this or what.

  5. I actually had my custom header vanish a few days ago, as well, and I use Coraline. It was especially weird because there was still a little radio button next to where that custom header used to be (I have several custom headers uploaded), but no image. Looking in my media library, I saw that the image was still there. I've also used the other custom headers as featured headers on certain pages or for certain posts, and they were fine.

It was also strange that not only did the header disappear, but nothing replaced it. In addition to the default headers provided by the theme, I have a few others uploaded, but none of them replaced it.

I even tried viewing in different browsers, still nothing there. I finally just uploaded it again (which I had to do since the only option offered is to upload a new header, not to choose one from a url). I then shrugged and went on with my day.

It is a peculiar sort of bug, though, if, as it seems, it's affecting more than one theme, but apparently not very many. (Although some people may have done what I did & just not reported it because once the header was re-uploaded, it stayed.)

  6. That is, the radio button on the page where one picks the header image was still there -- and it was clicked -- but the image wasn't, even though the image was still in the media library.

  7. I reloaded my photo across my header but I couldn't access it from the Media Library, where the photo was still located, I had to find it on my computer again and re-upload it. I guess I am lucky I am a digital pack rat. I hope it stays put now, it's very weird that your whole theme can just go away like that.

    Thanks for your input everyone.

What you see is a temporary header I just put there till I can rebuild the real header. How do I get it back?

  14. Um excuse me @timethief if you bothered to look at my BLOG which you can see if you click on my website you would see that it is a wordpress blog and I pay extra money for a service called domain mapping, which makes the blog available from my website.

According to the instructions for domain mapping:

"The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not enable the permission to use advertising, any kind of prohibited code, or upload additional themes or plugins. With the upgrade, your blog will still be hosted here at WordPress.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and you will still be required abide by our Terms of Service:"

So according to your own website, my blog is still hosted at wordpress. So does your comment mean that if I am an actual PAYING CUSTOMER as in I pay an extra fee for domain mapping, I AM NOT ENTITLED TO ASK QUESTIONS IN THE SUPPORT FORUM??????????????

  15. @tpoletti Please do not shout. And payment has nothing to do with it. As timethief very politely said, your username does not lead to a wordpress.com blog.

We click your name and we go to this site: http://timothypflueger.com/

It is very clearly not a wordpress.com site.

Rather than rant, you could post a link to your blog address. We are not psychic, and we're not staff. We can't simply look up your username and get your address.

If you have a wordpress.com blog, it is good to link it to your profile so that anyone can click your name & have it connect to your blog. If you don't wish to do that, then the alternative is posting an active url to your blog when you ask a question on a forum thread.

  16. The same thing happened to my header in Kubrick! Have just re-uploaded our custom image but it's not showing properly - it's as if the default image is still visible underneath the custom image - have a look and see what i mean. Anyone have any ideas how to rectify?

The site linked to your WordPress.COM username is not a WordPress.com site. We provide support only for free hosted WordPress.com blogs on this forum. Please post an active link starting with http:// to the WordPress.com blog wearing the Kubrick theme that you are referring to.
