My page RSS questions...

  1. 1) I've added the RSS widget to http://malapropism.wordpress.com to use as RSS for this site not for RSS inbound from other sites. The way I'm used to getting RSS url data for all other feeds I access on the net is right click the orange RSS icon, click properties, and copy/paste the url at the top of properties into my RSS news catcher. Right clicking the RSS feed icon on this page does not display the correct url. It reads http://malapropism.wordpress.com but should read http://malapropism.wordpress.com/feed. How do I fix?

    2) Also, the RSS widget lists the posted items from 1 to 20 as an option. I don't want any posted - zero list, just the RSS icon and header. How do I remove the list itme?

  2. Use the meta widget or a text widget. The meta widget will have the links to your feeds. Or you can use a text widget and hand write the links.

  3. I added the Meta widget but all I see on the test page I put it on is:

    * Site Admin
    * Log out
    * Valid XHTML
    * XFN
    * WordPress.com

    Where would the RSS be?

    If I use a text widget, what is the html code I'd need to display the feed and an RSS icon?

  4. Help please?

  5. Very frustrating. I used that link and associated code. It looks like this:

    <img src="//faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/b28.png”" />

    The page has a text box showing title as RSS but no image/link!?

    Ideas?

  6. Actually when I just posted my reply, the cose was partially cropped!

    This is it pasted in 2 lines:

    <img src="//faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/b28.png”" />

  7. For crying out loud! Whats up with this site. A guy can't paste 2 lines of codr into a post?

    I'll try 2 posts then....

    Post 1:

  8. The XFN on your Meta Widget is in fact your feed.

    I find it easier for myself and my readers to use an RSS widget. I know the techies don't like it, but it just works, and it has the icon built in. Just put your feed URL in it.

  9. well the 1st line of code refused to let me paste it here!!!!!!!!! why would that be. maybe pasting it with some junk in front of it...

    This is the code

  10. nope - won't let me past it here. someone suggest how to communicate the issues please.

  11. I just fixed your widget to what I think you are looking for. Please look at your site; you can change the icon by just replacing the img src attribute.

  12. hotkey - also, when pasting code use the backtick at the beginning and the end of the code. The backtick is the key to the left of the number 1 on the top row of your keyboard.

  13. RAINCOASTER - Thanks but I did try that and I didn't care for the listing it provided showing 1 to 20 of the last entries. If you can help me eliminate the listing I'll certainly use it.

    Looks like I'm reading at the very bottom of the page how to add markup too - so I'm pasting it in again in hopes of showing what I've got in there.

    `<img src="//faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/b28.png”" />'

  14. <a href="//malapropism.wordpress.com/feed”"><img src="//faq.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/b28.png”" /></a>

  15. Getting it figured out - learning!

    bubel - what did you have to correct? What was my error?

  16. It looks like you may have copied and pasted code from the FAQ page. Your backticks were causing the issue. Do you see in your code where they appear slanted? They have to appear as if going straight down. This is the same issue that arises when copying/pasting code from a Word document or something similar.

  17. I see.

    Now I've run into another snag. Updating another blog I'm working on jackslater.wordpress.com and wanting to add some new LINKS. So I go to DESIGN, WIDGETS and click on EDIT for the LINKS widget. None of my existing links appear there and it reads "There are no options for this widget".

    I'm starting to feel really dumb.

  18. Your links will not appear in the widget itself (meaning, in the dashboard). View your site and you will see that the links are there.

    Also, those links are managed through Manage -> Links.

  19. Thanks!
