My stats have dropped through the floor.

  1. It seems that some of my visitors are not being recorded at present. For instance someone choose to follow my blog yesterday but the stats suggested no one at all looked at it yesterday.

Any suggestions as to why this should be and what I can do to rectify matters?

The blog I need help with is lyricalwaxing.wordpress.com.

  2. Your followers can "like" your posts in several locations without ever clicking into your blog and creating a page view stat. Those who have username accounts only but no blog can become followers and click the "like" button.

A follower can click the “like” button when viewing your posts in the Readomatic reader on the home page of WordPress.com
A follower can click the “like” button when viewing your posts on the Topics pages.
A follower can click the “like” button when viewing your posts when using an app.
An email subscriber can click the “like” button in the email they receive of your new posts without visiting your blog.

P.S. To compel readers to click into my blog to read the full post I have set my RSS Feed to “summary” on this page > Settings > Reading

  3. I've been noticing this on my own blog for a few weeks now (same thing discussed by bounce51 in: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/the-views-dont-show-on-sites-stats-even-when-i-get-notification-of-likes-and-f?replies=4#post-935740). Since late May or early June I have gotten absolutely ZERO hits on my blog, yet people "like" my posts. I understand how it's possible for this to happen, but I don't understand how all of a sudden you could go from getting lots of hits to getting none at all. Did WordPress change its interface that drastically a month or 2 ago?

As it seems odd that you haven't been getting any views at all I have flagged this thread so Staff will take a close look at your blog. Please be patent while waiting.

P.S. if you offer filul posts by enail subscription there is no motivation for any subscriber to enter your blog and create a page view stat. To compel readers to click into my blog to read the full post I have set my RSS Feed to “summary” on this page > Settings > Reading

  5. @morgan - interesting blog - but you might think about using the More Tag to make your front page a bit more friendly - also then people need to click on the tag if they want to read the whole Post

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/

  6. Thanks for the tips! I obviously need to become a savvier blog-poster...

(But now I'm nervous that people will be scrutinizing my blog, LOL.)

  7. morganrossblog, your stats seem normal.

Your average views per day for your blog is 2, so some days of 0 are expected.

Specifically, your average per day for March was 6, April was 1, May was 2, June was 0, and July is so far 1.

Your blog is relatively now, so keep at it, and eventually your audience will grow.

    Also, check out http://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-more-views-and-traffic/

I want to strongly emphasize sharing your blog with your friends and family. If they like it, they'll share it with their friends, and so on.

  8. Oh, the sudden drop in average daily views after March may be because you made you blog Private on April 17 and didn't make it Public again until April 26.

  9. Thanks for looking into that. So it's not the blogware, you say, it's me.

I didn't realize I'd literally end up having the experts look under the hood. I'm kind of hoping you only went through the stats and not the actual material in the posts because my content is pretty ridiculous and not the kind of stuff you want to flash with blinking lights on the WordPress tech forum.

    But thanks, Happiness engineer.

  10. You're welcome!

If you're concerned, I didn't look through the post content, just the stats data.

  11. @morgan - when someone asks about stats and traffic we tend to look at the material in the blog - many things affect traffic - only two Posts in two months - as one person had - a blog that is a week old - so glancing at the material makes sense -

    good luck with your blog

  12. Yes, got it. I was joking (more or less) at any rate. And thanks very much for the help. :)

  13. Your blog looks a lot cleaner with the Read More tags - I did forward it to some friends with a note about your Linked In thing - probably got you all of one extra visitor but what the heck - a page view is a page view no matter how it shows up

    good luck

  14. Since posting my stats have returned to a healthy level. I have had a few referrals from this page but the rest have come from the ether. What's happening?

  15. The rest appear to be views with no referrer record, like someone visiting from an email, directly typing in the URL, or just someone filtering out their referrer records.
