My theme is broken!

They are images I copied from another site, but so are all my other images. I'm not sure what a 404 error is? Does that mean that it will not correct itself? I'm not sure what to do, I have tried all ideas, and nothing seems to work.

  2. Try to go on the site these images are linked to and see if it's still there. Most likely, the images has been removed by the owner.

This is the site, I am still able to access it.

  4. It's possible they have changed something and eliminated hotlinking. Your solution is to download the pictures, upload them in your WordPress.com webspace, and insert them in the blog that way. Hotlinking is generally frowned upon.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. What is hotlinking? I copy and paste, is that what you mean? If that is not how I should do it. Could you explain how to upload?

  6. Yes you can still access to it except that the owner realized you're linking the images to your blog, it may have been removed. Hot linking of images are considered to be a bandwidth stealing. How about hosting your own images at flickr or other free site like photobucket?

I'm not sure how to do that, but I will just take off the images from this site. Thank you for your help.

  8. or at least leave a link to their site (it's case sensitive specially from those private sites) or ask permission that you will use their images.

  9. When you copy and paste, it only LOOKS like you've got new images in your blog. What you really have is a window in your blog that looks into his where he's got the pictures. You're using him to host the pictures for you. Some people get billed for their bandwidth, and if that is the case, you are costing him money. You can solve that by hosting your images here at WordPress.com using your Upload option, or using Flickr or Photobucket, as K says above.

Thanks for your help, can you just tell me where to find the upload option?

  11. It's right below the Write box. You can't upload directly from the web, you'll need to save the image on your computer first.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

  13. Setting up a photobucket.com account is a fairly simple way to use random pics you find on the net without having to download them to your computer and upload them to wordpress.com

  14. "...photobucket.com account...without having to download them to your computer and upload them to wordpress.com"

--Skipping boring steps is helpful, I'll try it. Thanks, engtech! How's the kitten?

  15. Folks, if it's still an issue, please follow the suggestions made in this thread. Clear your browser's cache and do a forced reload of the page that you are looking at.

Actually reading the thread that you post it may help as well. :)

  16. I've done all the above and my sidebars are still out whack in Firefox. Everything looks fine in Internet Exploiter :(

  17. I am thinking it has to do with the Garland Theme as my other blog Grey’s Anatomy Addicts~Plus is fine.

  18. Hi, I understand that you can do a force reload or whatever suggestion for the themes to appear properly. The thing is that, not only the owner of the blogs view their own blogs. Our visitors will be turned off to see that our blog is in such a mess. Blog hoppers will never visit our blogs if it doesnt look good. Honestly, Its too messy that other viewers will have a difficult time reading it. Sorry to sound so.... but im just disappointed

  19. So far I have browsed some of the links on this thread and they all seemed fine at my end.

Post to your blog (or add some text to the sidebar) explaining that wordpress.com screwed up, not your fault, refreshing the page might fix it.

It's a free host. Sometimes things are going to break. It's annoying, yes, but comfort yourself with the thought that you didn't buy the CSS upgrade and pay for a broken service with no possibility of a refund ;)

  21. Our visitors will be turned off to see that our blog is in such a mess.

All browsers that I've used over the years have a default setting not to pull a page a second time if it's been accessed already. There's not a whole lot you can do when it comes to that.

Best bet like wank says is to make a post explaing what the issue is.

Either that or get Microsoft, Netscape, Mozella, Opera, and the other browser developers to change their defaults.

  22. I have been reviewing the CSS in a lot of themes being raised here as having issues. It is a huge mess. Really. Eg: Misused negative margin positioning? Imported Digg CSS?
And a lot of other stuff. I just do not know what to do about it. Where to start?

  23. alright. i did what u suggested.
i hope it'll all be okay soon.
    (:

  24. Any updates on this issue?

It happened to mine right after I purchased the CSS upgrade...I haven't even touched the CSS and it is messed up - my sidebar is at the botttom and the fonts are messed up.

  25. I believe this issue was resolved days ago.

Usually when a sidebar falls to the bottom this is due to an over-sized image which breaks the theme. I can see a huge chart that exceeds the size limits of the blogging space on your blog hence it's not wonder that your sidebar has fallen. This FAQs thread lists the maximum sizes for images according to theme http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/09/25/how-big-can-my-images-be/

If you are still having issue after reducing the chart to a size that does not exceed the blogging space (450 pixels for Kubrick), then please send staff a feedback containing as much information as possible in it.

  26. It's the huge table within this post and the picture within this post that's causing the issue. They're too wide and the sidebar has no place to go but down to allow them to fit.
