Need help realizing my design (columns)

  1. Hey everyone,

This is going to be kind of a big project for me so I really appreciate any help. I'm really not code savvy, but I'm not bad with photoshop... so I created a jpeg of what I'm trying to achieve with my blog main page.

You can see the site the way it looks now here: http://www.thepowercosmicblog.net

And what I want it to look like is this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v155/machineman/SampleOutline.jpg
(the pink is just to signify where the background would go)

    A few obvious things:

    - The header is image is wider

    - There are two columns. This is necessary because its frustrating that more important posts get pushed down every time i update anything. So I need a framework in place where I can designate a post being featured on the left with an image an brief description, and on the right just a single line link that doesn't take up space.

    - In the feature column, I want to get rid of all the junk that takes up space at the bottom of a post (how many comments, tags, etc...)

    - Menu across the top

So, any idea how I can do this? I would really appreciate any help. Thanks!

The blog I need help with is thepowercosmicblog.net.

  2. This is a big request; I'm sure you'll get people starting to help you out on this - but don't be daunted if it takes a while!

  3. I hope I get people helping out. Obviously I'd appreciate any help :)

  4. If you've got the custom design upgrade, staff are able to help you with specifics. I would have to say, though, that you're probably going to have to change themes. There are some very customizable themes among the newer ones. You can't change functionality with CSS.

  5. While we do help out, we don't do complete design-for-hire type work such as what you've asked for. If you're willing to work on learning the code, we are here to help you with what we can. Keep in mind that support is for the feature itself—making sure it's working, hints and tips on making the CSS work, stuff like that.

A great place to start learning CSS is through online tutorials. Here is one that I usually recommend:

Beyond that, jump in and start trying some things and if you have questions about the WordPress.com Custom Design upgrade, you can post them in this forum.
