Need theme with large picture plus text

  1. Most themes require the header be cropped into a long, narrow picture. I need a 1 column theme allowing for a large (not cropped) picture. Duotone would work except I cannot figure out how to upload a pic in Duotone AND I want black font, not Duotone's default white font. Vostok would also work, but I can't figure out how to upload a pic that doesn't require cropping. Is there a theme out there for me?

The blog I need help with is chrisdavis.wordpress.com.

  2. Every theme has a maximum displayed image width. This is a list by theme that you can consult > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/07/23/maximum-image-width/
Some themes allow optional sidebars providing a full width template. See here for a list > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/02/26/sidebars-and-other-widget-areas/

When we fail to compress and resize images to "fit" into the maximum allowed space in the blogging area before we upload them to our blogs the cropper comes into play and image quality is lost. See here > Ten Free Online Image Compression and Optimzation Programs > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2009/11/28/ten-free-online-image-compression-and-optimzation-programs/

My suggestion is that your register another blog for testing purposes and explore the Themes Showcase choices. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/ When you a theme that works the way you want in your test blog you can then activate it on your main blog.

  3. I cannot figure out how to upload a pic in Duotone

The instructions for uploading images are here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/

AND I want black font, not Duotone's default white font

Do you have a custom design upgrade? Without it and CSS editing experience it's not possible to change the font color.

Vostok would also work, but I can't figure out how to upload a pic that doesn't require cropping.

Please see what I posted above.

  4. re: font changes
These are 3 ways to change fonts on wordpress.com blogs.

    (1) Changing font families, colors and size in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page by coding into the HTML editor. http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/

    (2) Changing font colors in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page using the #4 icon (Select text color – change the text color) in Row 2 the Visual editor. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2

    (3) Changing all font families, colors and sizes throughout the whole blog by purchasing an annually renewable Custom Design upgrade and using Typekit Fonts with Staff support. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/
Note: Any font changes to font families, colors and size in the blog title, tagline, post titles, page titles cannot be done without CSS editing.
