Need to expand Navigation width

  1. I use WooThemes "Headlines". Several users have said that the navigation is confusing. It looks like there are 7 links in the drop down nav, but there are really 5. The problem is that the width of the navigation is too short for the name of my links. Does anyone know how to allow more characters in the navigation link, rather than having to rename my navigation links with two or three words

The blog I need help with is mikeziemski.wordpress.com.

  2. WordPress.com doesn't allow editing of the core theme template files. You could probably do something with CSS though. The ability to edit your CSS file is available as a paid upgrade.

  3. I don't consider this to be a core template theme since I paid something like $45 for it. To purchase another upgrade at the price specified for CSS control with a "maybe" that doing so would accomplish what I need to do would mean that it would be more economical for me to buy the template directly from WooThemes - which would be an irrational revenue generation approach for WordPress.

  4. @mikezmed, yes it can be widened with CSS via the custom design upgrade, but to take full advantage of the width, the RSS feed links at the right side would need to be hidden. The thing is, there is only 35px of left padding on the RSS stuff, so the navigation tabs should go clear over to that point.

  5. Thank you for you comment, but I'm good with the navigation bar width. The thing that needs widened is the drop-down links. I apologize for not being that specific in the original post. Main nav links are cool, but if you look at the drop downs, you'll see that some of them take up 2 lines.

Would the CSS design upgrade take care of this? My biggest problem is that if I pay it, how would I know what to change to make it so?

    Thanks again!

    Z

Your theme is a premium theme and we Volunteers answering questions on this forum have no knowledge of how they are designed to operate, and no access to the themes, so posting to this forum is not likely to be productive. When you purchased your premium theme what came with that purchase was support directly from the theme designer. When you purchased the custom design upgrade you also purchased Staff support. Please click this link and post to that forum for theme support. Premium Themes Forum link.

  7. Ah, I see now. Yes that can be changed with the CSS, but the problem is you aren't really in control. What the visitor sees is going to depend on their browser font and zoom level settings and it can even vary from browser to browser even with the same basic settings.

My first suggestion would be for shorter labels in the navigation, but the second would be to set a lighter grey or different color for the dropdown sections when you hover your mouse over them so that you can see that the menu item is two lines. This is also doable in the CSS.

If you get the upgrade, we can help with the changes.
