Need to renew domain upgrade for our WordPress.com blog, says expiring??

    I need to renew our current domain upgrade for our WordPress.com blog. We purchased a domain upgrade last year (www.aikahiptsa.org) and we simply want to renew this for another year; however I cannot find a link or otherwise anywhere on our dashboard that will allow me to do this. Our "upgrades" page on our dashboard simply says our domain is expiring and provides us no link or otherwise to renew this upgrade. So, how can I do this?

    I also want to purchase 2 more upgrades (custom design and no ads), but cannot do this until I'm confident our domain has been purchased for another year. Can someone please help ASAP.

    I was able to edit the contact information for our current domain upgrade, but that was it.

    You need to be logged in as the account that owns the upgrade to renew it - did another person / account buy the original upgrade?

    Yes, another person created and purchased the initial domain upgrade via her credit card, which has since expired. We want to renew this upgrade via a new credit card, but cannot figure out how.

    Earlier today I updated the contact information associated with the domain, but that's all I was able to figure out how to do. Please help!

    Yes, another person created and purchased the initial domain

    Then that person needs to renew the upgrade - changing the email does not change who can renew an upgrade

    The other option is to have the person that owns the upgrade to transfer the upgrade to you - they can do that by logging in here with the account that owns the upgrade and asks for the upgrade to be transferred to another account - please be very precise with the instructions if this is the option you want - that helps the staff to get things right the first time - we will then flag this for the staff to help you

    PS - opening many threads disturbs the very fabric of space and time and does not get you help any quicker - gums up the forum and confuses those that would otherwise help you - because now we are running down many threads and trying to fix things so they are not so confusing - also many people in the forum will not help those that have opened many threads with the same question -

    Thank you for your response. I will ask the person who originally purchased the domain upgrade to transfer the account to me. At least, I think that's what you said to do.

    Secondly, can you please explain why our domain is described as "expiring"? Why would that happen when our domain is not set to expire until February 28, 2013?

    And, lastly, I think your PS must've been directed toward someone else, as I ONLY opened ONE thread (i.e. originated ONE post with ONE question) on this or on any other WordPress.com forum. I did, however, respond to several other recent questions posted by others who complained of the exact same issue (i.e. trying to renew a domain). If your PS was directed at me, are you saying that it is inappropriate for a member to respond to questions of others on a community support forum? If that's the case, I'm very sorry . . . and very confused.

    Upgrades renew 30 days before they expire to give time to correct any problem without having a gap in service - in this case there is a problem with the renewal and there are several days to fix the problems without having a gap in service or a penalty - if the upgrade was renewing / expiring today you would be in a blind panic trying to fix things - this way there is 30 days to deal with the problem

    Yes it was you posting into several old threads - it junked up the forum and I spent several minutes chasing them down and flagging them for further attention - then the staff or a moderator will need to clear out your extra postings - a waste of time by several people - the other thing that happens with mufti-threads is help to you gets spread out all over the forum and things really get confusing

    After posting my question, I continued researching this issue within WordPress.com's support forum and found MANY OTHER UNANSWERED questions pertaining to this same issue. Naturally, I replied to a couple of their questions asking if they figured out how to resolve the issue we were both experiencing. You originally accused me of "opening many threads", which I did not do, as those threads were already open. If WordPress.com does not want members to reply to the questions of others, why are we provided a place to respond?

    If you're just not feeling well or tired of answering the same questions everyday, that is not my fault. I simply asked 1 question and responded to a couple others. That does not warrant you disrespectfully accusing me of "disturbing the very fabric of space and time" or of "gumming up the forum" or, even worse, threatening me with the loss of support on WordPress.com's support forum!

    If anyone did anything inappropriate, it certainly was not me.

    @carabarber: the domain name aikahiptsa.org will expire on Feb 28, 2013. It will remain active until then. As @auxclass correctly guessed, the upgrade is owned by the other user on the blog and they can transfer it to you, either via Store > My Upgrades using the transfer link, or by posting a request in this forum. Once you are the owner of the upgrade, you can renew it.

    Thank you so much for your help Jenia! Yes, I informed @auxclass the domain was originally purchased and owned by someone else. That owner has since advised that she transferred ownership to me.

    Yet, I also plan to purchase 2 more upgrades (custom design & no ads) when I renew the domain and would like for all 3 upgrades to be synchronized or have the same date of activation/renewal (Feb. 28th). Must I wait until Feb. 28th to renew our domain and purchase these additional upgrades to accomplish this?

    And, given that the current status of our domain is "expiring", I should ask if it is safe to assume that we can wait until Feb. 27th or 28th to renew our domain without issue? We'll be submitting payment via credit card.

    Probably safe - but I am still upset that I can't pay a couple of years into the future anymore - I also don't trust myself to remember - and what if something glitches? Personally I renew early

    @jenia - any update on when we can renew for more that one year at at time James McManx said "soon" a year ago and so far nothing looks like it has been done - the option to renew for more than one year was available when I transferred my site onto WordPress.COM

    That owner has since advised that she transferred ownership to me.

    Was it transferred directly to you? Or did they make a request on another thread? I don't see a post from the owner on this thread.

    The original owner emailed me and said:

    I just went under 'users' and the option to transfer the domain came up. It was pretty easy - let me know if you don't get an email about it soon, I want to make sure it went though.

    Unfortunately, on our upgrades page, it still indicates that the domain is owned by her (kokuacommunications). Not sure if it worked?

    Is there something else we need to do?

    @jenia should check back in this thread to make sure things are OK and I would expect her to check your account when she does at that time and let you know anything else you might need to do or fix any glitches

    Thanks @auxclass! I hope she can help figure out why the transfer of ownership is not reflected on our upgrade page.

    Do you have multiple upgrades on your site? If so, were you able to synchronize their renewal dates? Just wondering if we could renew our domain (renewal date Feb. 28th) and purchase more upgrades now and somehow synchronize their renewal dates? Maybe they could postpone activation of the new upgrades until Feb 28th??

    @carabarber: unfortunately, I don't see what you are describing (upgrades or blog being transferred to another user), instead, I see that the upgrades were renewed by the original owner. If they still want to transfer the blog/upgrade ownership to you, please ask them to either post on this thread stating so, or to contact us directly via the support form: http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

    The Custom Design and No Ads upgrades are one-year renewable subscriptions, valid from the date when you purchase them. So if you want to have the same renewal dates, then you will want to purchase the upgrades on Feb 28, 2013.

    Thank you for your help. When I advised the original owner of the domain that her attempt to transfer ownership did not work or, in the least, still was not reflecting on our dashboard -- she chose to renew the domain for another year herself. We both were frustrated and chose to go to less complicated route.

    Yet, I would still like to purchase the 2 additional upgrades on February 28th. Will I be able to do so using my own credit card? I just want to make sure it will not charge her credit card before beginning the process.

    Yes, you will be prompted to enter your own payment information when purchasing the upgrades, if you purchase them while logged in as "carabarber".
