new blogger seeks feedback

  1. Hello
I have been blogging for 6 weeks. Could an experienced blogger or two check out my blog and give me some feedback. Of course, I want to increase traffic. I could use advice how to put a blog roll/website links in place on my front page and add blogs that I like to read and promote. Also, I have a link to my art website- should I put this on the front page of the blog- how do I do this? I am techno- challenged but learning a little each day. Any glaring issues I need to take care of on the blog?
    Thanks
    Brenda

The blog I need help with is brenjacobsen.wordpress.com.

  2. I guess I would offer that your blog presents itself as unsure of what it wants to accomplish. Your drawings are interesting, but displayed so small I couldn't see the detail without zooming in. Also, I don't see the point of the inspirational quotes unless you write about your creative process - how you came to draw the pictures and link with the quotes, or just what the quotes made you think about. Unless your intent is to make a gallery as opposed to a blog. Part of the confusion about blogs is that people don't understand that they are primarily WRITING, to be READ, though I have seen some great ones where people also display their art or photography. If it's about the art, it needs to be shown larger. If you write something of substance, readers will come, and dedicated readers will subscribe. Illustration is important as value-added, but subservient to the importance of the text. Best wishes though - you are obviously talented.

  3. I could use advice how to put a blog roll/website links in place on my front page and add blogs that I like to read and promote.

How to instructions are found here in thw WordPress.com support documentation.

Information and advice here. Understanding Reciprocal and Non-Reciprocal Links
    http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2008/11/09/understanding-reciprocal-and-non-reciprocal-links/

    Summary:
Exchanging relevant, high-quality reciprocal links with other related sites is another method of driving targeted traffic to your site. Exercise caution when agreeing to reciprocal linking because in the last Google update, reciprocal links were one of the targets of the search engine’s latest filter.

If your pages and the blog (site) get a lot of reciprocal (two-way links - ilink to you - your link to me), especially if they are not links from related sites then the search engines will assume that these are solicited links; search engines do not give much importance to such two-way or reciprocal links and may even penalize your site.

  4. Thanks for the above advice- I think I will take these suggestions and improve my blog- enlarge my pics and add more writing- explaining the process- I do enjoy writing and now that you point it out- I see it will help not hinder my blog. I don't want it to be just a gallery- I have a website for that.

The blog roll advice also I will look over closely and see if I can do it. Thanks so much to both of you for your time.

  5. You're welcome from me. :)

  6. - and from me. You're off to a good start.

  7. so in order to enlarge my pics- do I have to take each of them down and up load one in a larger size- do you know a short cut?
