New gallery types not visible in IE8

  1. Hi,

My new galleries look fine in Chrome and Safari but won't scale images correctly in Internet Explorer 8:

    Example screenshots:

This is what it looks like in IE8

And in chrome (and other browsers)

    Site: http://gullmars.se (resolves to http://gullmars.wordpress.com)

Theme: Contempt (with custom CSS: wider area, frames on single images etc)

Is this a known issue? If so, can I expect a solution or is IE8 no longer supported?

    Best regards,
    David

The blog I need help with is gullmars.se.

  2. We're aware of the issue, but I can't guarantee that there will be a fix, considering that IE 8 is two versions behind, has poor support for standard web coding practices, and does not support most of the modern web technologies that we're using with things like the mosaic gallery display.

You can disable the mosaic gallery display at Settings -> Media in your blog's Dashboard.

  3. Thanks, I can appreciate your priorities and would myself like to see IE8 disappear, but the install base is still huge, especially in company office environments. In fact just slightly below the stats for IE9 in the beginning of 2013. And "two versions behind" is a matter of interpretation as IE10 has yet only been released for win8. So if the problem isn't impossible to solve I'll keep hoping for a fix!

  4. We're looking into it, but we might be limited by IE 8's lack of support for modern web technologies.

If you personally know of anyone stuck on Windows XP (so they can't upgrade past IE 8), please urge them to switch to Firefox. It supports the current web technologies, plus it has much less security issues.
