new here - need help pls

  1. Hi guys,

I'm new here and just started a website, however, I don't want to use it as a blog but as a professional website.
I did change it to .com now, but i still can't figure out where to start really.

I just want a clean, professional page like this: http://themetrust.com/demos/work/ , but i do not have money to spend on this.

Can anyone tell me how to get this type of look and if it's possible without having to buy it?

Also, I do not see any place called ''plugins'' in my settings...How do i get that?

    Cheers

    Mo

The blog I need help with is render3dimage.com.

  2. You do not have plugins on a WordPress.com blog; those are for WordPress.org blogs.

We have over 100 themes here to choose from, so just find one you like and go from there. Monotone might work for that look, but it's very inflexible. Don't buy a theme; bought themes can't be used on a WordPress.com blog.

  3. I recommend beginning by support entry so you are aware of the differences between wordpress.com free hosted and self hosted wordpress.org installs.

Next you need to learn the differences between page and posts. Blogs are post based structures. Websites are page based structures. Pages and posts are two very different "animals".

  4. Then you can choose a theme and restructure it from being post based to page based. I recommend using one of the themes that have the custom menu feature.

  5. Thanks very much! I'm definitely looking for Pages then. Just downloaded a nice theme, but now to install it....Donno how, but i'll try and find out on google or something.

  6. Like I said, you can't. You can't apply downloaded themes to a WP.com blog. They are for WP.org blogs instead, like plugins.

  7. @render, to use themes and plugins off the internet, you will have to self-host a blog at a web host like godaddy, bluehost, etc. The wordpress.COM hosting service does not allow us to use outside themes or plugins.

This post by Timethief explains more about self-hosting and what you will need to know to do it.
