New sploggers all the time

  1. Little excerpts of my blog are stolen from me and put on some site that looks like a WordPress site. From what I can tell from my reading so far, these so called "blogs" are not affiliated to do with WordPress at all. I've only been hit with the same splogger twice, before I copyrighted my work. They all have different 'user names' and they are doing this to a lot of people. I don't know where to send a "cease and desist" letter and I don't know to whom I report this. They do provide a link to my blog, and I do get a lot more traffic to my blog, but I also tend to get more sploggers from it as well.

Can someone help me? The links I still have happen to be from the same person:
    http://www.log.siiiping.info/the-prime-of-my-life/

    http://www.log.siiiping.info/the-life-of-a/

There were others too but I'm not sure who they are as I marked them as spam and don't know how to retrieve the information.

I hope someone can help me. I've read so much on sploggers here, but I'm just not seeing anything about what to do when you can't contact them for the notice to stop doing it.

    Thank you. :-)

  2. Hi,

This explains where to send a DMCA infringement notice for that site:

    http://stolen.wordpress.com/2008/11/08/siiipinginfo/

There's a link to a sample notice at the bottom.

You can read more about these sites here. Please note that you don't need to do anything to copyright your work - anything you write or create yourself is automatically covered by copyright.

  3. Although copyright law automatically covers people who write or are the original producer of any work (photo, written etc), I now have it registered as such which gives me further legal recourse if necessary. Thank you for the link.

So, are the IP addresses to any of these sites (whether siiipinginfo or otherwise) where I need to report abuses by people who take my work?

  4. Finding out where to report each site can be tricky. If you know how to use whois you can look up the domain name and IP to find the web hosting company that runs their server - but there are some gotchas. If you're not familiar with whois and DNS your best bet is to report them to http://stolen.wordpress.com/tips/
