New Theme

  1. I have the same blog running on wordpress and blogger to see which one I like the best. I absolutely like wp best. But, I like the design of my blog on blogger (valamb.blogspot.com). I would love to see a theme similar to this one, I think it is called Watermark.

The other option for me would be to purchase a premier theme thru wp. Please, please, please help with suggestions. I have looked at so many themes it's crazy. Does anyone know of one that will give me the look I have with blogger???

    Thanks! Janet

The blog I need help with is valamb.wordpress.com.

  2. I'm very happy with Oxygen theme. Also, Liquorice is an another populer theme.

  3. No two themes are exactly alike, so you'll have to compromise, so we cannot really help with your question if we don't know which aspects of "the look" of Watermark are more important to you. Some pointers:
    • If the background image is important, then most WP themes support uploading a bg image. But if the semi-transparent content area is important, then fewer themes are designed like that.
    • If your header image is important, you need a theme that supports header images plus the "Hide Text" option. See here:
    http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/24/header-images/
    • If the main fonts are important (in Watermark titles are Georgia, main text is Verdana), see here:
    http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/09/07/theme-fonts/
    • If having two sidebars is important, see here:
    http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/02/26/sidebars-and-other-widget-areas/

Note: my lists don't include the latest themes. For those (as wellas for "premium" themes), see here:

  4. Sorry, wrong link at the end, should be:
    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sort/recent/

  5. Justpi... that's a big help! Let me go thru your links as well as make a list of what is important about the layout I have now. I know the header graphic is.

Also, should I be looking at premium sites? I have heard I can change the html in many of those to make even further adjustments.

    Thanks,
    janet

  6. On wordpress.com you don't have access to the HTML of a theme. You can change its appearance via CSS editing if you buy the Custom Design upgrade. But premium themes have extra options such as layout options or font choice or alternative color schemes. But alternative color schemes are also available in some free themes - see here:
