New To WordPress: Please Help

  1. Hi, I am new to wordpress and am looking to start up a sports blog. I have very basic knowledge of wordpress and would just like to ask a few questions. My nich is going to be chicago sports, so the theme i chose would be important and so would advertising. I am very savy with social media and would also like to incorportate this to my blog as i do most of my posting through twitter, facebook, and instagram.

I have been trying to build the site, but noticed some problems with using a wordpress.com site rather than a .com site. I am not sure what i actually have to do if i buy wordpress for the $18 a year or buy the premium package, but i do at some point want to be able to download pluggins and customize the site and have it be affordable. Since this will be a new site i will need to drive traffic and that could take some time before being able to monetize the site properly. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

The blog I need help with is bettermurph.wordpress.com.

  2. and so would advertising ... i do at some point want to be able to download pluggins and customize the site ... monetize the site properly.

There is no bundle you can buy that provides permission for blogger initiated advertising on any WordPress.COM blog. There is no upgrade your can purchase here that allows you to initiate advertising contracts yourself on your free hosted WordPress.com blog.

You cannot post any advertising on your blog here at WordPress.com. There is only one advertising program called WordAds at WordPress.com and it’s for blogs on their own domains. You apply to WordAds by asking for an invitation. You wait a long time.
WordAds Staff check out your blog and if and only if it qualifies they contact you and implement ads on your blog.

Aside from a blog being accepted into WordAds no blogger initiated advertising, retailing or reselling the work or products created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed on free hosted wordpress.com blogs. E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by WordPress.com. Paid content and/or sponsored content is not allowed.

There is no upgrade you can purchase from WordPress.com that changes any of that. If you do require an ecommerce site, advertising, paid or sponsored content you can hire a web host and get a free software install from http://wordpress.org

  3. And what if i pay for the regular .com site? Or if i do direct selling for advertising while using the text widget to ad my own creatives?

The networks i would likely use are adsense and Casale Media as i will likely fit my needs for monetizing the site.

How much would it cost me per year Min-Max to be able to have CSS access, Plugins, and Advertising?

Right now i dont really need much in terms of Plugins, but there are many out there that will be benefitial to me when i do start gaining traffic.

    Thanks again,

    PAt

  4. How much would it cost me per year Min-Max to be able to have CSS access, Plugins, and Advertising?

The VIP program starts at $ 30,000 / year or so - and you need to have a superstar WordPress guru on your staff

You need a WordPress.ORG install and your own host to do what you want to do

If you have no Tech savvy then look at managed hosting plans with support such as WP Engine - or hire some help
