I created and was authoring today my first wordpress.com post. I understand that a zillion people are using wordpress.com which is amazing. But I'm flabbergasted that authoring is so unreliable. The wordpress experience? To me, that would be writing the same texts over and over again. I'm continually loosing my edits? Why. Auto save? Auto recycle bin is a better name. I like writing...but this is exactly the experience that would cure that.
The blog I need help with is onknows.wordpress.com.
Best to "copy all" in the html editor before saving, then if your draft disappears you can paste it back where it belongs.
To be honest, I have not had that problem except when my log-in times out. But lots of folk report that as a problem and have learned not to rely on autosave.
Some people use Ecto for Mac or LiveWriter for other operating systems: they are offline editors which work well with the WordPress platform.
I use Windows Live Writer - I like offline writing - seems to be much easier to me, then when the Post is ready I upload it and double check how it looks online.
And Live Writer is free.
One of these days, I'll have to pony up the nominal fee so I can try Ecto…
After being on an old computer for a while, I had to get in the habit of writing posts in Word so they could be saved. I never knew when my computer would crash.
That way, you also have a copy of your posts.
