New Windows

  1. My links on the sidebar don't open new windows. I don't want people to leave my site. How can I control it in an easy way?

Is there something I can do?

    Thank you,

    Anna Labno

The blog I need help with is annalabno.com.

  2. For links that you add to a text widget, you can use the target="_blank" attribute such as below:

    <a href="URL OF LINK" target="_blank">Text you want linked</a>

For the links widget, make sure you have the "target" module active on the links page and then you can choose from several options.

In posts and pages when you link text in your content, you can also choose from several options.

  3. Thank you for responding.

Still, I don't understand. My URL files don't include any of these code.
You mean that I have to add
    <a href="
    before my link?
    and
    target="_blank">Text you want linked
    after my link?
My links don't contain a href or a target.
Text you want linked?--is that for the URL file?

Can you give me the example?
I need to put quotation marks before my URL file and after?

  4. I didn't use Add Links to add my links on the sidebar, but I used widget images to add to my sidebar. I didn't see the option there that I can choose displayed under link page.

  5. Please be aware that thesacredpath is not going to respond to you as he is on long term walk about.

This is the guide for creating links in posts and pages: http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/
This is the general link model:
    <a href="URL HERE">Highlighted anchor text here</a>
This is the visual result - not actually linked as we are using an example.
    Highlighted anchor text here

Enter the anchor text you want to link to first.
Then use your mouse to highlight that anchor text.
Next click the chain icon in the editor and proceed to create the link.
(If you don't highlight the anchor text the chain icon will remain grayed out and not be useable.)
Next click the chain icon in the editor and proceed to create the link.
(Select the option to open in new window if that's what you want.)

This is the guide for creating links in text widgets > http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/text-widget-links/

You can use the special generator for WordPress.com blogs to create a “grab my button” code for your friends to use, and place it in your sidebar in a text widget. (The Blogger code one will not work on WordPress.com blogs.)

  6. I wish that he could respond, he's really good with explaining things.

I already did create links using widget images. It took me hours to do it.
Now, you're telling me I can't have them opening new windows and need to start from scratch using Add Links. I was so happy that I accomplished something after 16 hours, now to be told that I have to start from scratch again.

  7. Thank you for responding. But I don't have text links but images. I want the images on my sidebar to open new windows. I used widget to add the images on my sidebar. It took me hours to create URL files and images to add to the sidebar.
So how can I have these images open new windows?

I hope the other stuff member comes back because he really know how to help others. He helped me in the past.

  8. Thank you for giving me a site where I can create Grab My Button!
I'll try to do it, so it displays correctly!

  9. But still if you can help me so I don't have to create new links on the sidebar, it would be much appreciated.

  10. I created the code for Grab My Button. How do I add it now?

    Thank you,

    Anna Labno

  11. This is a peer support forum where Volunteers answer most questions. In fact thesacredpath has been posting today but he is extremely busy and will help onbly when he has the time to.

I created the code for Grab My Button. How do I add it now?

Copy and paste it into a text widget.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/

  12. This doesn't help. It only lets you post text.
When I go to widgets, what category I click on?

    Add Image?

And where do I paste the code? Inside the Caption, inside the URL address?

    Thank you so much!

  13. It doesn't want to take that code in the URL file. By the time I click save, the code disappears.

    Why?

  14. Great! MY alabno.wordpress.com has been hacked!!!

  15. What do I do?

  16. It's only my free domain that has been hacked. Netherless, I want that fixed.

  17. I fixed it and got my button!

    Thank you!

Again, I'm going back to my initial problem. Why my links don't open new windows?

How do I change that so they do?

  18. thesacredpath told me how to open a new window using text links. I checked it out, and the code works. I'm so sorry that I'm so hard to understand these things.

But I do need to link images so they open new windows, not only texts.

But I'm getting there. I'm going to try to figure things out on my own. But please if you do know how to lead me to it, let me know.

    Thank you!
