Newbie Blogger – Why doesn’t my blog come up when I search on its name?

    Hi, all:

    I’m fairly new to blogging. Last week I started a blog about finding apartments that are smoke free. I named it LivingSmokeFree. Right now it has one post, but no comments or views.

    I can of course access it when I sign on, but when I search on it by name (LivingSmokeFree) or tags (smoke free, apartment), nothing comes up. What might be wrong?

    Ok, lets see…

    First and foremost i think you may need to check your Settings and ensure that you’ve allowed search engines to be able to bring up your blog in their listings. I had this option when I first registered my blog and I could have easily missed it if I didn’t read the form carefully.

    Secondly, unless you plan to promote your blog yourself, you may need to consider changing your blog title to one that is more likely to be searched e.g. ‘Apartments to Rent or Buy’…I dunno.In your blog title you also have a line beneath where you can add a description of your blog i.e. …Find an apartment which is smoke free!

    N.B – my blog URL or web address just happens to be different from my blog title, and the name in the web address does not come up in the Google search engine. However, when I type the exact title of my blog my blog comes up as #1 on Google search!

    If you’d searched the forum you’d realize that the WP.com search doesn’t search blognames. And brand-new blogs are excluded from the tag and category pages for a certain length of time. Also, if you don’t link your username to your blog by putting the blog URL under “Website” on your profile, nobody will be able to find it from here either.
