Newbie needing design and basic blog help, please!

  1. Hi, I'm still new to this and there just seems to look like there's so much going on within the Dashboard and the site overall that i'm confused as to where to look first.

Basically, there's a few different things I want on my blog, and things i'm confused about.

    - A box on my Blog with a live display of my Tweets. How do i get one of these?
    - How do i get a comment/msg box. Also, do you know if someone messages me within the comment box, does it get sent to my email inbox of the email i used to sign up to WordPress with?
    - What does Meta mean and is it important to have it on there? What about the subheadings underneath it?
    - Do the tags i use help people find my articles through Google?
    - How can i further bump myself up within Google search? I tried typing out a few sentences of one of my posts into Google and i still couldn't find me!

If someone could be of help, it'd be truly appreciated. It's so frustrating and stressful knowing where to start.

The blog I need help with is hashtagpop.com.

Comments are open on all wordpress blog by default.

You have two separate email address settings at WordPress.com.

Blog notifications for the admin (like comment moderation, Likes, new subscriptions, etc) are sent to the email address at Settings -> General in the Dashboard.

Personal notifications (like comments on your post, subscription emails, and upgrade renewals) are sent to the email address at Users -> Personal Settings in the Dashboard.

    See > Issues Changing your E-mail Address > http://en.support.wordpress.com/email-address/#issues-changing-your-e-mail-address

    Re: comment display
Unless you use P2, a twitter-like theme comments are collapsed on the front page of your blog. The way the comments function is coded into the core of WordPress. By clicking the post title or the comments link the posts on the front page open on their own page where all comments display.

In a new blog one does not have many posts or comments. In an established blog if the comments did not collapse on the front page it would become a mile long in no time flat and page loading time is a page ranking factor. We have only seconds before visitors refuse to wait and click out.

  3. Bumping thread to alert the helpful volunteers for you.

Never mind I see TT, answered the thread for you thank you TT,

  4. What does Meta mean and is it important to have it on there? What about the subheadings underneath it?

See here for a description of what the Meta Widget is for > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/meta-widget/

Do the tags i use help people find my articles through Google?

Yes and no. These days search engines pay more attention to your keywords in your content than they do to your keywords in Tags/Categories. Watch what Matt Cutts of Google says here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2012/03/01/revisiting-keywords-and-tags/

How can i further bump myself up within Google search? I tried typing out a few sentences of one of my posts into Google and i still couldn't find me!

  5. ~~sl1k
I'm multitasking from work so sometimes I have to break my comments into multiple posts as I have to answer phones in between. :)

  6. @TT no problem I understand. = )

  7. Thanks so much for the help TT.

But re:comment box, i didn't mean the comments on my posts, i mean, on some websites, instead of giving out email address, they have a contact form. Is it possible to get one of them on my blog?

I notice some people have keywords on their blogs, like a section where they put them on. How can i go about doing that?

  8. Hi again,
You can create a Page and customize a contact form on it.

I think you mean a Tag Cloud widget.
