Nishita theme archive thumbnails

  1. Hello there,

For my photoblog on wp.com I have recently adapted the Nishita theme. When I click on a tag to access archive posts, the posts where I embed flickr images do not show any thumbnail. If I upload images directly to a post it shows it. Here is an example:

    http://kaldirimlar.com/tag/photofriday/

I mainly embed images from my flickr site and I do not want to upload images to wp. In other themes when I click on tags I usually get the image thumbnails.

I have already contacted the Nishita theme creator but they have informed me to direct my question to wp.com.

I have already found another (closed) topic about this issue, there it was mentioned to have "featured image". In my case this is not true. If I upload an image on my post (and not set a featured image) the thumbnail appears. If I embed via flickr it does not. Furthermore I can not select a featured image via flickr (link).

I hope wp.com can adapt the theme. For photography-oriented theme thumbnails should appear if there is an image in the post (whether uploaded or embedded).

The blog I need help with is kaldirimlar.com.

  4. Hi there,

When you upload an image to WordPress.com, our system generates thumbnail images for those files automatically. Embedding an image from another source on WordPress.com does not create the same auto-generated thumbnail, so the image will show up full-sized in a post but will not appear when a thumbnail version is being called by the theme.

When I checked a few of your posts with Flickr images, I also noticed that the images took significantly longer to load. It's worth noting that images uploaded directly to WordPress.com will typically will load faster than when your page has to make individual calls to Flickr to access the data.

If you want, you can post a suggestion for enhanced Flickr integration at our Ideas forum, http://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/ideas

  5. Hello Jackie,

Thanks for taking a look at this issue. You're right the best way will be to upload images directly to wordpress. Depending on a third party brings also a risk, if they change their system perhaps all my embedded images might not be shown on my blog. On the other hand I trust flickr and keep uploading my photography there as a backup (cloud).

I will keep blogging with uploading to wordpress.com for the coming period but I will also prepare a suggestion for flick integration.
