Nishita thumbnail archive ??

  1. HI friends,
I recently started using Nishita for my photoblog at http://www.sanvarfotofun.wordpress.com and i am unable to get thumbnails in the archive page as is mentioned in the theme showcase of Nishita.

    Thumbnail Archives

This photo-loving theme also uses post thumbnails to show a small version of images on your archive pages. Out of the box, the theme will crop the image attached to the post and make a thumbnail for you. If you prefer to crop your own thumbnail—or use a different image—use the Featured Image tool to set the alternate thumbnail image.

PLease help me know how should i go about it...

    Thanks a lot !
    Cheers !

The blog I need help with is sanvarfotofun.wordpress.com.

  2. You need to set an image as a "featured image" so it will appear on your category and archive pages.

    http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/08/23/featured-images/
    or
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/featured-images/

  3. Thanks Tess.
I had set the featured images already but it didn't work.Am able to get thumbnails only when i click monthly archives in the archive widget but not on my archive page.

  4. In the majority of themes, posts on category or monthly archive pages show up just as they do on the main posts page. But in some themes only the beginnings of posts are shown, and in a few themes you only get titles or thumbnails. Please see here for the list by theme > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/full-posts-in-archive-pages/

  5. @sanvarfotofun

    I see now!
You are confusing the archives shortcode placed on a page with archive pages.
    They are two different things.

This photo-loving theme also uses post thumbnails to show a small version of images on your archive pages.

You could use a custom menu to links to the archive pages in your top navigation. Use a blank link maybe called "Archives" as the parent page, then add links to your archive pages by month as child pages.

Link to your archive page looks like this:
    http://sanvarfotofun.wordpress.com/2011/12//

  6. (Sorry for the extra / on the end of my example above)

This is info about listing archive pages in a widget if you don't want to make a custom menu:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/archives-widget/

You could place the widget temporarily in your side-bar, open an archives page.
View the page, and choose to view source with your browser.
Copy the source code for that month.
Then paste the code, in the html editor, into your current archives page.
It won't update automatically. You'll have to do the copy/paste each month…

  7. Here I have copied the source code for your December archives:

Archive for the month "December, 2011"

If you paste that into the html editor of your page called "Archive" then you'll see the list of posts with the thumbnails.

  8. @TT Thank u..went thru the list..
@Tess : I guess u got my confusion right on spot :) Thanks so much for the detailed steps...i wouldn't have been able to do it without that really ! Thank u !
I wish Nishita theme could have had it done automatically each month though ;) For that matter does any WP theme have this feature automated ?
Thanks a ton Tess for helping me out !
    Seasons greetings @TT and @Tess !

  9. @Tess : OMG Thanks so much !!!!!!! I would definitely try !

  10. The archive widget does it automatically, though it requires readers to click on the months in order to see the thumbs…

You might look at monotone, or one of the other themes on the link timethief posted.

  11. Done ! Thanks a lot Tess !

  12. You're welcome.

  13. Hi Tess and TT,
I could get the thumbnails (monthly, with no.of posts)in the archive page by using the shortcode
    [archives type=monthly showcount=true]

This automatically updates the thumbnails monthly for the Archive page.

Thanks for helping me through !
    Cheers !

  14. Great news. I didn't know that one could do that.
    Learn something new everyday!
(a good use for featured images in Nishita)

  15. Thank you ! Thanks for all the help !
