Normal for your followers to receive email updates every time you post?

  1. I am completely new to WordPress and have very little idea of what I'm doing. My blog is here.

Every time someone new follows me, I receive an email about it. And in that email, it always said that the follower is going to, in turn, receive an email every time I post.

Is there any way to turn this off? I don't want to spam people's inboxes. Or is it up to the individual to choose whether or not they receive emails from the blogs they follow? I've read different things.

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is faoiseamhh.wordpress.com.

  2. It is up to the individual if they get emails or not. When you enable Subscribing, that is what you are enabling. If people sign up for it, you can't NOT allow it. You could take the widget out of your sidebar to minimize the number of subscribers you get, but that's all you can do.

  3. Thank you. I didn't realize there was a difference between subscribing and following.

  4. How would I remove the subscribing option, if I wished to? I went to look at my widgets and I have none in use, so I'm a little confused.

  5. You can't really. If you had the widget and removed it, it would reduce the number of subscribers but not eliminate it. If you're signed in to WP.com you can click on the admin bar to follow any blog here and if you're not, then there's a little pop-up at the bottom right hand side of any WP.com blog to Follow.

  6. Followers can also manage their subscriptions and the frequency they receive the email, there are two or three settings.
