Negative, endlessly loading icon on blank screen but nothing appears

I have no e-mail notifications active but have been using the toolbar icon which changes to orange when a new reply is made, providing a dropdown box for reading the reply and making a reply to it. This is not functional.
We'll look into this, but we'll need specific answers to all 5 (no shortcuts, please) before proceeding.

Seems like it may also help what is the URL of your own comment which received a reply that you were not sent notification, and what is the URL of that reply not notified. If that would help, here is an example.

atlantamom23, I recommend upgrading your browser to at least IE 9 (if not 10). If you're stuck on IE 8 and can't upgrade, please switch to a different browser, like Firefox or Chrome: http://browsehappy.com/
IE 8 is two versions behind the current, has almost no support for modern web technologies, poor support for web standards, and a fair share of security issues.

Perhaps I should add that notifications are working fine for likes and for comments made on my blog. I am not sure when I last received a notification of a reply from another blog - none are listed in notifications and since the emails are coming through just fine I might not have noticed in the past few days if I accessed them via the email link.
I noticed the no notifications problem yesterday. Still happening today.

I found the responses to my comments using the "comments I've made" page of my dashboard despite the lack of notifications. I also noticed (last night) that some of my old notifications have disappeared from my notification list.

@shoreacres: hi, saw you there, too. Good to see there's active work being done on this and knocking wood it gets fixed soon! To me, it's one of the very best features of WordPress over blogger, e.g., so a real shame that it's not working.

I have been facing the same problem. It is very difficult to keep in touch with the previous activities unless it is through notifications.
I have wondered if any "ad partner" content was added about the time the problem arose. I noticed just before the notifications went down or in the same time frame there was an issue with the entire page loading for an excessively long time and never completing loading, sometimes a refresh would get it to finish loading a blog page but it slowed response and slow on posted messages appearing also ....so there was some sort of bandwidth issue or a conflicting script running......and that can be caused by ad content because I have seen it happen before, the same thing happens on eBay sometimes when they have a screwball ad partner with buggered script or a slow server and it interferes with the main page it is "blended" not so seamlessly. Sometimes the ad content does not work and play well with others. Just a thought.
My notifications button has not been working for several days either.
