Number of entries returned in search

  1. Hi all,

Here is my quandry: my home page shows 2 blog posts at a time, per my specification in the Reading settings. However, this setting seems to also dictate how many entries show up, per page, on a search. For instance, if a reader searches for "apples" on my site, there might be 100 results, but they come up 2 per page. That's a lot of clicking.

Is there a way in CSS to set this specification without having to change the home page specs? Ideally, I'd like to keep the home page at 2 posts and have search return 10 or 20 per page. I'm using Vigilance theme.

Thanks in advance for any advice,
    Kaela

The blog I need help with is localkitchenblog.com.

The answer is "no". CSS editing can only be used to change appearnce. CSS cannot be used to change the way any of our themes function.

Does the Custom Design upgrade let me edit HTML?
No. The Custom Design upgrade allows you to edit fonts and CSS only. You can change the appearance of a theme, but not its HTML markup, PHP code, or content. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions

We cannot edit templates or themes here at WordPress.com

  3. We set the number of posts to disaply on the main page for posts in the blog here > Settings > Reading
Blog pages show at most __ posts
We cannot set a different number to display on tags pages, categories pages, or Archives pages. When we publish a post it automatically displays on tags, categories and Archives pages and we cannot edit what's displayed or the number of items displayed. In the majority of themes, posts on category or other archive pages show up just as they do on the main posts page. But in some themes only the beginnings of posts are shown, and in a few themes you only get titles or thumbnails. http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/03/25/full-posts-in-archive-pages/

  4. Hmm. I was afraid of that. I suppose my only option would be to switch to .org and jigger a theme. But it will take someone with far greater HTML chops than I (a very low bar, indeed.)

Well, thanks for the info. I guess I'll just have to be happy that I haven't been subjected to the indignity of infinite scroll. (yet!)

  5. I'm sorry the answer wasn't the one you wanted to hear. Your blog looks great in Vigilance. I'm going to try your Savory Cheddar & Chive Bread recipe. :)

  6. Thanks! I just finished the last of that bread. <sad face> Totally worth making: I tend to be a dunce with quickbreads and this one came out perfect on the first try.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend...

  7. Same to you. :)
