offensive ads

  1. I am sick of the offensive ads that show up on my blog. I understand that ads keep features free, but I am considering eliminating my blog because of the nature of many of the ads. Is there any solution to this?

In what way are they offensive? WordPress do not have ads that could be considered offensive as far as i'm aware. Could you give us an example of one such ad please.

  3. WordPress.com has no interest in displaying offensive ads. If you come across such an ad on your site, please take a screenshot of it and upload it to your site's Media Library so that Staff can take a look at it. Post back here in this thread after you have done so.

  4. They are ads of girls pretending to want to chat, displaying large, partially exposed breasts, for example. Or, there will be a picture of a huge rear end of a girl, saying, "I'm available". This may not be offensive to all, but it sure is to me.

  5. The only way to get rid of all advertising on our free hosted WordPress.com blogs is to purchase an annually renewable No-Ads upgrade. WordPress.com has been running advertising on our free hosted blogs since 2006. Many bloggers do not know this because despite the fact they ticked the box required to get a free blog, they did not read the ToS. Many also do not read features page, or advertising entry in the support documents after registering their username and blog(s). Also note that as the ads do not display to us when we are logged in, and as many use browsers with ad blockers when logged out, they may not realize they are there at all.

If you feel an ad is inappropriate please do as justjennifer said above.

  6. The next time I see them come up (the ads are always changing) I will do a screen shot.

  7. What's considered to be offensive to most North Americans may not be offensive to Europeans and so on. I decided to settle this issue and opted for peace of mind. I chose to purchase a No-Ads upgrade so I'm never concerned about advertising on my blog at all.

  8. Thanks, everyone. I will upload a screen shot to my media library and then post it to the thread given for the staff.

  9. While the No-Ads upgrade is certainly an option, again WordPress.com has no interest in displaying offensive ads as they are interested in keeping the site a family friendly place. They do try out new ad platforms from time to time and sometimes an unacceptable one creeps in.

(Personally, FWIW, I don't understand what would be the point of running ads on a Private site, such as the OP's.)

  10. Ahem.

The ads you are seeing are ads put on your blog by YOU. You have a browser add-on that is putting those ads on your blog. Disable your browser extensions one by one until the ads vanish and then you'll know which of them is the culprit.

WordPress.com does not put on ads for girls with big boobs, etc.

  11. Thank you, raincoaster. Going to try that now.

  12. @raincoaster
    Great catch!
