Old posts and sharing buttons

  1. Prior to the sharing buttons, I was putting in my own selected share buttons. I'm happy to have the new ones but the problem is that all my old posts now have, by default, the new buttons added PLUS the ones I put in manually with each post. Is there a way to change this setting so that share buttons are only checked off if I check them off on a post, rather than the other way around. It's simply too much work to click every old post and remove the manual links I had in. But, it looks really messy with two sets! Thanks. =)

The blog I need help with is weirdscience.ca.

  2. No, there's no way to do that. I have the same issue and I just decided to let it go.

  3. I faced the same issue. Still do. But I have been going back and manually deleting. The effort in doing so is not great and the payoff is a much cleaner looking site.

Just do a few at a time. Once you get into a rhythm it goes quickly.

I figure that it was worth the effort to put them in via Get Social Live when WP did not offer the feature. Those icons served me well. I like the new feature very much as it makes for a crisp look.

By the way, I see that you both only have the standard icons. I have found a great page that has website links for lots of 16X16 icons of other services. It is here: http://www.softicons.com/free-icons/internet-icons/social-media-icons-by-paul-robert-lloyd/yahoo-buzz-icon

I certainly would not add all of them, but some (Yahoo Buzz, Google Buzz, Delicious) are important and do get play.

Have a look at my blog to see how they look.

    Cheers!

  4. I have four thousand posts!

  5. Hmmm. Then still do a few at a time. Just over a long time!

  6. Nah, definitely not worth my time. If I had slaves, then sure.

  7. I think that WP might be introducing slaves in Beta in the near future.

On a more serious note, I have a question. If you go to my blog and scroll over the share icons, you see a little message pop up. For the pre-set ones, the text is geared to the icon (e.g., "Click to share on Reddit"). For the ones I added myself, however, the text is generic ("Click to share").

It's not a big deal because users of the different services will know what the buttons are for, but is there a way to change the text that pops up? Just curious.

    Thanks!

  8. As far as I know, there isn't yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was in the future.
