Older posts / newer posts, etc.

  1. When I scroll to the bottom of my site I don't see the 'View older posts,' 'View newer posts,' message anymore .. why might that be? I've got my settings set to see 25 posts but I don't see nearly that many and can't click 'View older posts' to see more. What's up? And, how can I fix this? Thanks. Dave

The blog I need help with is pairodox.wordpress.com.

By the way 1, twenty five posts per page are too many: the page will take too long to load.
By the way 2, you're wasting your storage space (and get worse quality on the post) by uploading unnecessarily huge files. Before I elaborate on this:
Your images link to attachment pages when clicked. Is that intentional? Are you familiar with the available options?

  3. I'm not sure I understand ... "Your images link to attachment pages when clicked. Is that intentional? Are you familiar with the available options? "
    Could you clarify?
I don't intentionally link my images to anything ... perhaps this is a default setting. I know that if I click an image I am migrated to the originally uploaded (larger) version. What's wrong with that? I'm not sure I understand what it means to have an image linked to to an attachment page. What ARE my options? Please explain if you have the time - I'm interested in what you have to say Justpi. Also ... #2 how is it that a larger image shows up less well than a smaller one? Also ... please advise. I'm a newbee and kinda slow. Thanks much. Dave

  4. Hey Justpi ... I just checked on infinite scroll and I have the box checked for it. Funny thing is that when my wife looks at my blog she can indeed scroll (footer shows wheel loading when she gets to the bottom). On my computer though it seems to load once and then doesn't let me go any further. Do you have any idea what's up with that? Sorry to add yet another query to my list ... but it sounds like I've got something to learn from you! D

    Hi,

I have read all about people who want to disable infinite scrolling -- but I'm having sort of the opposite issue and I was wondering if someone could help me with it.

I have a featured posts header on my homepage, but also have my most recent posts below. Right now I can only get 1 blog post to show in full, and the others are just the titles -- you have to click on them to read.

I would really like to have at least 2 or 3 posts in full -- they aren't too long, I just want to show that I have more than one blog post at a time.

I would also REALLY like to have some posts as "sticky" on the homepage but not listed as "Featured" in my Blog Page -- I want them to just be normal, by date on my Blog page.

Can anyone help with either of these? I have the CSS style editor.

Thate's the way the theme is designed to function. Please read this so you comprehend how the Twenty Eleven theme is designed http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/05/04/workings-of-duster/

We cannot edit templates or themes on WordPress.com blogs http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/ and CSS editing cannot be used to change the way any theme functions. It can only be used to change appearance. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions

    @pairodoxfarm:
    1) You can disable infinite scrolling. See the post I linked to.

    2) See here:
    http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/04/26/images-the-three-link-options/

    3) The width of the post column in the theme you're using is 540 pixels. Any image wider than that gets downsized to fit. Images downsized by WP are compressed, so they lose some color and sharpness - see here:
    http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/01/16/image-quality/
So, in order to get better quality as well as not to waste your storage space, you should use an image editing application or an online tool to downsize copies of your images to 540px wide, and upload and insert those copies.

  8. OK justpi ... I've got the image size issue understood and resolved - I also got the link options understood and straightened out. Thanks much.

I'm still working on the IS issue. If I view with Internet Explorer IS works just fine ... if I used Firefox the thing scrolls down ... loads another series of posts ... and then will not load again - I bottom out after about 12 posts. Even if I turn off IS the thing will load more posts once and the bottom out. Is these some switch on Firefox that you know about that I've messed with? This used to work but has recently stopped functioning. Weird. Very weird.

Thanks though for your help on the other issues - they make good sense and I'm glad you pointed them out to me.

    Dave
