Olympics

  1. What do you all think of the Olympics. Are you going to watch it?

  2. I am happy about the conflict in Georgia, as it helps drown out the utterly pointless racket of the games. Waste of time, waste of space, waste of energy.

  3. I'm not interested in sports.

  4. I am happy about the conflict in Georgia

Hundreds and possibly thousands of civilians have been killed in the conflict in Georgia. But I'm sure their grieving relatives will find some comfort in the fact that their deaths helped to save boblets from Olympics coverage. Every cloud has a silver lining, eh?

  5. of course that is not what I mean. Of course I am not happy that people die, just that I'd rather read real news and real analysis about things that matters; things that teach me something, rather than drown in inconsequential babble about idiotic athletes without two braincells to rub together. I see my comment can be misunderstood.

  6. I like watching the gymnists fall.

  7. ah - true, kstafford, that is good - but winter olympics have the best skiing accidents.

  8. okay, well I kind of like watching Misty May (u.s. beach volleyball), and the Japanese female beach volleyball team was fun to watch.

The chinese gymnasts are just scary - those girls can't be 10 years old?

  9. I watch it when there's nothing good on TV,... so that's most of the time.

I think it's pretty fun to watch, and love to watch their reactions when they realize they won x]

  10. If I were an Olympics athlete... I'm sure you all would rather watch TV than blog. It's fun to watch people fall and make mistakes, right?

  11. Man, what's with all the Olympics hate? Did the athletes beat you up and take your lunch money? There is a serious case of Schadenfreude here.

I'm a fan of watching what humans can physically accomplish (though I'm not much of a fan of team sports) and I really have no vested interest in what countries win what. I just enjoy the competition and am consistently amazed at what people are capable of doing. The Olympics are fun to watch and I really don't think there's anything wrong with that.

  12. It's hard to watch teams like China, where the "athletes" are purportedly pulled from their homes as early as age 3 and forced into grueling training "factories" with one goal in mind. Kind of hard to take a lot of joy in that. Don't get me wrong - I watch them, but they are what they are - an international pissing contest.

  13. It's not quite as bad as Western media would portray it as. Granted, China has no leg to stand on when it comes to how it treats its citizens (and those unlucky foreigners caught in their crosshairs) but people in the West try to demonize every aspect of daily life over there and it's just not true.

Don't let politics rob you of your admiration for the accomplishments of athletes and participants who have no political agenda in this country, China, or anywhere else.

  14. I'm a fan of watching what humans can physically accomplish
yeah, yeah, smack bang up to their bloody eyeballs in dope.
    A wonderful world.

  15. When do the Olympics start?
I mean, i don't want to miss any action......
Been waiting four years for this..... :)

  16. Michael Phelps = The Man

    That much is certain.

  17. I'm a fan of watching what humans can physically accomplish fly to my place, Blitar, East Java, Indonesia. You can watch humans flying, or running in the speed of light. You can easily find people who really walk on water. No tricks. No lies. The Javanese believe that once you've recognize who you really are, you can do anything at all.

  18. "that's why I'm starting with me....

I'm starting with the man in the mirror. I'm asking him to chaaaaaaannnnge his ways..."

  19. I don't have a TV. I'll watch the "best of" clips on failblog.

  20. Well, this thread partly inspired me to incorporate the Olympics into my horse racing blog.

  21. I'm a fan of watching what humans can physically accomplish
