on wp.com with domain mapping; want to switch to wp.org

  1. Hi. So my site is wp.com and domain mapped to another URL. I want to redesign the site under wp.org and remove the domain mapping so the wp.com goes away. I use Tierra Net as my host. how do I design the site, move the posts and debut it in its final version ? Where can I do a test version that no one sees I suppose is my basic question? can I put the site under construction for awhile while I do so? I know that WP.com offers this service now but I'm trying to save money and see if I can do it myself. Thank you!

The blog I need help with is washingtonsquareparkblog.com.

  2. On this support forum we provide support only for free hosted WordPress.com blogs. All support for self hosted WordPress.org installs is here http://wordpress.org/support/

Once you have set up your self hosted WordPress.org install and uploaded your theme and plugins into it then you can update the nameservers for your domain. If you’ve registered your domain through WordPress.com and now want it to point to a blog or website hosted elsewhere then you can do this by updating the nameservers. Follow the Update Nameservers instructions.

Your content can be exported out of WordPress.com blogs and imported into WordPress.org installs. This is the main link to all support documentation. http://en.support.wordpress.com/ The searchbox provides results from the support dos and also from forum threads. That same link "support" is found on the bottom of your Admin pages.
