Only some of my blogs show up in Blogs I Follow!

  1. This is a secondary blog. My primary domain is http://recoveryalongroute66.com. I'm not sure if you need that information or not. The problem is with the Blogs I follow widget. When I add new links, they don't show up on the sidebar. The only way I can get even WordPress blogs to show up is to "follow" them from the Home page of Hooker With Yarn. They won't appear in the sidebar when I add them through the Blogs I follow widget.

I have made sure the "Keep this blog private" box (or whatever it says) is unchecked in each of the blogs. They all say visible.

What else could I be doing wrong?

    Thanks for your help,
    Chris Stachura

The blog I need help with is hookerwithyarnstringsattached.wordpress.com.

This is to assure you that this thread has not fallen between the cracks. It's tagged for Staff attention.

I don't see a Blogs I Follow widget in the sidebar here > http://recoveryalongroute66.com/ I see a Links widget (Blogroll) displaying sites you link to.

The Blogs I Follow Widget allows you to list some of the blogs that you are following via the WordPress.com Reader in your sidebar. But you don't enter them into the widget. You follow them from your Admin bar and the widget displays them automatically.

  3. Hi there - I'm not seeing a Blogs I Follow widget on either of these sites:

    http://recoveryalongroute66.com/
    http://hookerwithyarnstringsattached.wordpress.com/

Would you mind providing a link to the site that's not displaying sites in the Blogs I Follow widget so I can investigate? Thanks very much.

  4. Hi Kathryn,

It is this blog that has the Blogs I Follow widget (I had taken it out and tried a text widget, but that didn't work, either):

    http://hookerwithyarnstringsattached.wordpress.com/

It is not showing all the blogs I have linked on my dashboard, where I have to designate them as "different" from my "blogroll" in "recoveryalongroute66." Plus, some of the blogs from my blogroll are showing up on Blogs I Follow. :(

If you can figure this out, you are a true Happiness Engineer.

  5. Hi Chris, thanks for clarifying! Your Blogs I Follow widget is currently set to display 20 of the blogs you're following, as you can see here:

    http://cl.ly/image/3f1l2Y0Q3R0p

I'm seeing 20 blogs in the widget, here:

    http://cl.ly/image/2N3A0R0M0K3k

If you'd like more blogs to show, you can change 20 to a higher number.

Let me know if this helps!

Plus, some of the blogs from my blogroll are showing up on Blogs I Follow. :(

Could you give me an example of one of these blogs, so I can take a look?

  6. Kathryn
I was able to set it to 50 but it makes no difference, because blogs that I add do not show up.
An example of a blog that shoudnt be there is:

    http://www.erinmhartshorn.com

  7. I was able to set it to 50 but it makes no difference, because blogs that I add do not show up.

I looked in your account under Blogs I Follow and it shows that you're currently following 21 blogs, which is exactly how many are being displayed in your sidebar now.

Would you mind letting me know where you see that you're following more than that so I can investigate? Please send a link to the page if possible - thanks!

An example of a blog that shoudnt be there is:

    http://www.erinmhartshorn.com

You do appear to be following that blog, according to your Blogs I Follow list, as you can see in this screenshot:

  8. You must be so tired of me by now you can't even see straight. What I meant by some of them not showing up is--yes, it's set to 50 so that I can add blogs along the way that I see and enjoy. I found one like this and tried to add it, but it won't show up in my Blogs I follow sidebar:

    http://www.tangledhappy.com/

I went to the screenshot (THANK you for providing that!!), and deleted all the blogs I don't wish to be following for HookerWithYarnStringsAttached.com. But--when I went back to the blog page to check the sidebar, they were still there. Does it take a few days for them to fall off? Is there something else I am doing wrong?

  9. You must be so tired of me by now you can't even see straight.

    Not at all. :-)

I'm only seeing 8 blogs listed in your widget now:

    http://d.pr/i/1Jgo

Could you try clearing your browser cache and seeing if that helps?

I found one like this and tried to add it, but it won't show up in my Blogs I follow sidebar:

    http://www.tangledhappy.com/

I don't see that on your list of Blogs I Follow here:
    http://wordpress.com/#!/read/edit/

I just added it, and it's now appearing in your widget.

How did you try to add it before? Did you go to this page - http://wordpress.com/#!/read/edit/ - and add it to the text field, and click the "Follow" button? Did the URL show up on the list on that page immediately after doing that?

  10. Kathryn,

I think I LOVE you. It's all fixed. I had been adding them wrong. I now completely understand.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

  11. You're very welcome - I'm so glad it's now clear! Happy blogging. :-)

Sorry to re-hash this but I am having the same problem /:
It seems that only WordPress blogs that I follow are showing up on my blog?

  13. @emilybeen - could you please start a new thread to describe your issue in detail, and add the word modlook in the Tags section in the right column so Staff will respond. Thank you.
