open compoun words, permalinks

  1. I do not know if this is a support questin or not. Thanks. I have searched for an hour on both wp and google, to no avail.I am so new, so please speak English. I love geeks; my son is one, but I cannot understand most of the shop talk.

I'll be referring to a free wp blog.

How do I indicate a phrase in the permalink window of the "edit post" page? My post is about Black Labs or Labrador Retrievers, both open compound words. Do I convert them to a closed compound (BlackLab)? Would that confuse the bots? Or what? You probably can realize that hypenating it would be nonproductive. I don't want to misdirect lab technicians or Labrador Islanders. Get it? Or does it matter? Thanks!

The blog I need help with is katharinetrauger.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi. Since no one answered yet and it's been 3 days, I'll give it a try.

    Does this help?

  3. Nah, but thanks. I think I misunderstand the purpose of the function though. Is it just handy for people? If so, they can make sense of whatever I do there, I suppose. If it's for search engines, won't it confuse?

OR DOES IT MATTER? I think that is my main question.

Thanks, airodyssey, for giving it a try! I hope to resove this soon, as I may need to relabel a bunch.

  4. Since no one answered so far, I thought I'd give my two cents.

Whatever you do, DO NOT change the permalinks (also known as "slugs"), otherwise people who had bookmarked your blog entries or who find them on Google will end up with a "file not found" error message.

  5. Forgot to say...not changing slugs goes for existing posts. For new ones, before you click on "Publish", you can change the slug at your leisure.
