Own domain but need to purchase credits.

  • I’ve have my own domain and wanted to add it to wordpress. However when I add the domain, a message appeared as below :-

    “Adding anemptyfeeling.com

You can add the domain anemptyfeeling.com to your blog right now. You can use it as your blog address for 10 credits a year. You have 0 credits available.

You must buy 10 credits to finish this purchase. Please click the Buy 10 Credits » button to buy credits through Paypal. You must return here afterwards to complete the purchase”

My question is, why did it prompted me to buy the credits when its my own domain ?

  • Because domain mapping (which is what you’re trying to do) ain’t free. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/10/domain-mapping/

  • It’s free in Blogger… What’s the deal??

  • It’s not free here.

  • Why is it so hard to give someone $10? I can’t find a way to purchase credits…

  • Leaving the same comment in multiple threads doesn’t get you any more of an answer. As posted over there, it appears that this is deactivated on the weekends.

  • um I’m having the same problem purchasing credits but its not a weekend

  • The problem we are experiencing IS NOT with domains; it’s with BUYING CREDITS :) Can someone, preferably someone who has actually bought credits for ANYTHING (not just domains) just say how you do it. Is there a link somewhere? Do you first go to PayPal?

  • I found it! Go to Upgrades -> Gifts to buy new credits. (You don’t have to actually give then to anyone.)

  • Ditto! No link anywhere to purchase credits expressly for domain account :-(.

I’ll try the Gifts suggestion, but hope it works (not very intuitive)…

  • ok, you CAN’T buy gifts for yourself….

  • You can’t? I seem to recall that’s what I did. What is the error message you’re getting?

  • Like you guys, I need to buy credits. I have 0, and need my domain to be mapped to my WordPress blog. Does someone know the proper way to purchase credits?

Also, AFTER purchasing my domains, I finally found this “note” on a domain-mapping help page, that when you use D. mapping, themes and plug-ins aren’t available. What’s the point then of using WordPress? How can I get a theme then? Do you have to create your own templates, etc. or do you just have to use the default them? (your blog will appear as it does on the default WordPress blog page?)

    Here’s the note:

“Purchasing the Domain Mapping upgrade does NOT give you the permission to use advertising, post any kind of prohibited code, or upload any themes or plugins.”

  • allegro – if you have a domain, then the steps are laid out here
    http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/10/domain-mapping/
After your name servers have been configured, and as soon as your domain redirects to WordPress, on your dashboard, go to Upgrades > Domain, enter the domain name and you will be directed to PayPal for further processing of your payment.

  • I really like wordpress.. but everytime I goto by credits to add a private domain I go through the same pain of finding where the hell it is.

I’ve done it plenty of times, run several web companies, so aren’t an idiot, this is just a plain confusing user experience.. everyone I put onto wordpress comes back to me with the same question…

When you’re adding a domain and it tells you you need credits why can’t is just link to a buy credits page.. and when you’re in upgrades, why no big utton just saying buy credits… its pretty simple…

awesome user experience otherwise, really don’t get why this has been made so hard, look fwd to fix!

    Thanks,

  • I just ran into the same problem… and I’m a hard-core geek.

The whole problem could be solved by making the text much more clear, stating that you FIRST must change the DNS entries for the domain with your registrar, and that they ability to buy credits will appear AFTER DNS has propogated. Onl until then you can sign up for the domain mapping in the dash board.

Otherwise, it’s a pretty decent UI.

  • Sorry for the typos. My bad.

  • where can you find your available credits?…can’t seem to find it

  • Should be fairly easy to spot under Upgrades.

  • i purchased credits for my other wordpress blog back in May (08). i spent them on domain mapping (and a CSS upgrade that never showed up). now I can’t find the “buy credits” feature either…. what gives?!?!
