Oxygen: limit number of characters in post excerpts (entry summary)

    Hi! I'm a CSS newbie, but after searching this forum extensively, I managed to elimnated the right sidebar in the oxygen theme and got the main column to use the space instead. My entry header is now displaying in one line and the post summary starts beneath.

    Is it possible to change the number of characters shown in the post summary using CSS? Because now it is only 1 and a half lines long and looks a bit funny.. I would like to show some more text.

    The code so far:

    .entry-header {
    float: none;
    width: 100%;
    }

    .entry-summary {
    float: none;
    padding-left: 0;
    width: 100%;
    }

    Also: I would like to get rid of the author. So that it isn't shown when you click on a post.

    .bypostauthor {
    display: none;
    }

    isn't working..

    Can someone help?? Thanks!!

  2. a) Auto excerpts display a fixed number of words (not characters), and that's PHP, not CSS, so you cannot change it once for all. You can change it on a post-by-post basis, by creating your own custom excerpts in the Excerpt module of the post editor.
    b) In my opinion, removing the sidebar on the main page looks wrong (because you cannot widen the featured images). I would suggest you remove the sidebar on the single post view but keep it on the main page, or use a different theme, or maybe place the excerpts next to the featured images instead of below them.

  3. To remove the author byline, add this:

    .single .byline {
    display: none;
    }

    Thanks for replying so quickly! Removing the author byline worked perfectly, thank you!!

    Is there absolutely no way to widen the feature images? Could you tell me how to place the excerpts next to the featured images? I wanna try that to see how it looks. Thanks so much!

  5. Hi, this will enlarge the featured images on the main page in Oxygen, but there is a resultant decrease in image quality since the original size is set in the theme php script files and we cannot modify those files. That means the browser is resizing the images. Add this to the bottom of your existing custom CSS and see what you think.

    .home .featured-image img {
        width: 100%;
    }

    .home a.read-more {
        top: 200px;
    }
