Is there a way I can display more than 3 posts (with the featured image) on the home page - instead of displaying the "more articles" section beneath the posts?
It's really important for me to display 7 posts (with the featured image) and I don't need the "more articles" section.

If you want more than three posts and no "more articles" section, then set your front to display your latest posts instead of the Showcase template page.

If I change it to "latest post" will it disable the featured slider image banner ?
Yes, the slider works on the showcase template only. So you've got to choose what's more important to you.
