I have a page on my blog with the url http://chordbook.wordpress.com/i/ which does not work and directs me to a problems page, is having 'i' in the address causing some sort of problem?

Yes, you can't use a plain i in the URL. The page title can be i but the page slug cannot. Go to Pages > All Pages, hover over the page title, click Quick Edit, change the slug to anything other than just i, click Update.
