help? New to this. I have a web site set up with word press but a couple of my pages have archives and log in on the right hand side. Is there any way I can remove this? Thanks.

Go here > Appearance > Widgets
Choose only the widgets you do want to display, click to open each one configure where required, click "save", click "close". Doing that means you will override the default sidebar display which doesn't contain any actual widgets.
In case you don't want a sidebar at all, you can choose which Page Template you display on a page and you don't have to choose one that has a sidebar.
No Sidebar Pages
Optionally hide the sidebar on pages using the “Full-width, no sidebar” template option when creating or editing a page. Content on pages using this template will span the entire width of the layout.
