pages widget won't go away

  1. I dragged the pages widget onto the sidebar, but later decided to use a custom menu instead. So I dragged the pages widget off, but it won't go away! it's still showing the list of pages on my sidebar . . .

The blog I need help with is joannajuzwik.wordpress.com.

  2. You have a browser issue. I can see clearly that there is no Pages widget in the sidebar of the blog linked to your username using Firefox 9.0.1. Please clear your browser cache and cookies and if your browser version is out of date upgrade it here.

Note 1: All browser have settings we can use. The most useful one of all is to set the browser to aoutomatically clear the cache and cookies whenever we log off the internet.

Note 2: When you make adjustments to your browser settings — changing privacy settings, deleting cookies or increasing security — you will need to close your window and restart the browser before those new settings become effective.

  3. I am using Firefox 9.0.1. I reset the cookies settings to clear when I close Firefox, but it doesn't seem to solve the problem. I can still see the list of pages (titled "Basic Information"), and have tried several different computers. Any other ideas?

Thanks you so much for taking time to offer help. I am mystified.

  4. I'm so sorry but I don't know how to help you as I don't see any Pages widget in your sidebar. I see these only:
    Categories
    Tags
    Archives
    Search the reframe
    Email subscription

Perhaps another Volunteer or Staff will be able to help you.

  5. As timethief said, there's no Pages widget in the sidebar of the blog linked to your username. Are you talking about a different blog perhaps?

  6. OH! Yes, I am indeed talking about a different wordpress blog! Look at joannajuzwik.wordpress.com. Thanks.

  7. That blog is wearing the Dusk to Dawn theme. It does not have a top horizontal menu bar. There are only two ways to provide access to Pages on that theme. You can either use the Pages widget or you can create a custom menu and use the Custom menu widget.

You can remove the Pages widget here > Appearance > Widgets
Pages widget click the widget to open it and then click "Delete".

If that doesn't work then you could have a browser issue. In that case try clearing your browser cache and cookies.

  8. At the moment you've got two sets of tabs in your sidebar: the one with the flyouts and the one with the bulletd items (and none of the two is the pages widget). Which one do you want to remove?

  9. I want to remove the bulleted list. How I originally added this bulleted (pages) list was by going into the Appearance menu > Widgets, and dragging the "Pages" widget onto the "Sidebar 1" window. This is also where I subsequently created the Custom menu.

After I created the custom menu, I dragged the "Pages" widget off the Sidebar 1 window (as timethief suggests), back to the "Available Widgets" window. At that point (and still now), the Pages widget does not show up on my sidebar 1 (in dashboard viewing mode), but the list of pages it created won't go away (web view)! I repeated dragging the Pages widget back on, then off a couple times, but it didn't help.

Could there be HTML code I need to remove or something?

  10. Go to Appearance Widgets and delete the Custom Menu widget.

  11. It worked! Thanks much.

  12. You're welcome.
Explanation: the lower menu was activated via the widget; the upper one is activated in Appearance > Menus > Theme Locations. When you do the one you don't need the other.

  13. Hi guys
I'm having a similar problem with my Volstock theme website, copy-fox.com. I want to remove the date widget and meta widget from the footer and I've gone to Appearance -> Widgets and removed all widgets from the left and ride hand side bars. But they still appear! What am I doing wrong?
    Your help is much appreciated!
    Helen
