Hey All.
I want to include my paypal donation button into my wordpress blog. I went to paypal.com and created my html code for the button. I added a new ”Text” widget and copied the html code from above into the widget, clicked on ”save” and revisited my blog…but the button doesn’t appear, in the sidebar just appeared “Donation”, so the keyword i used for the text widget ”name”…but the code doesn’t work.
Any suggestions?

This is not a very helpful reply, timethief, because the link you provided is for a Paypal button to be added to a blog entry. It doesn’t work for a text widget. I’m looking for the same answer, too.

I’m so sorry Staff’s instructions in the support documnnetation aren’t working for you.To add the donation button to your sidebar, you can follow all of the aforementioned steps and then copy the html for the image and link you added into a Text Widget. http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/
Will you please post the code you have in between backtick ( ` ) characters here on the forum and we will examine it and help you with it.
P.S. Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog starting and then save changes.
Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.

I just figured out!
I used an image widget.
Under the “Image URL” I copied the picture link after clicking the blue text of the button I wanted. Copying the actual wording underneath the button didn’t work.
Then for the “Link URL” I pasted the instructions from the support listed above in the Paypal account.
It worked! So excited. This will be great for our non-profit.
(I have more than one blog that I manage. One personal and one for a non-profit, which is why I don’t have it linked to my username. I don’t want the two linked together and often work on one then the other.)

I’m working on a WordPress version of a website for a non-profit organization (musicians who sell their own CDs for charitable purposes).
Is it possible to add PayPal links that will allow people to purchase those CDs?
I can’t quite tell because there seems to be a difference between “donations” (permitted) and “sales” (not permitted?) and I don’t know whether the non-profit nature makes a difference.

It doesn’t.
Only the donation button is allowed, however you are allowed to say “for a donation of $15” or whatever. As long as the organization itself is producing the CDs, you can retail them this way, but it’s more efficient for you to have an independently-hosted WordPress.org blog so you can use the full ecommerce features, including Paypal sales buttons. They’re stripped out here at WP.com.

ah, OK.
I really want to keep it here on WordPress.com because I don’t want them to get into the same situation they have with their present site (designed on Drupal, not updated for going on 5 years now because the one Drupal expert left, so now nobody else even knows how to post reliably, let alone make security updates).
I’ll see whether they have anyone willing to step up as a long term security guru or not, but I suspect the answer is no. They also sell the CDs on Amazon, but would rather sell straight because then they don’t have to pay Amazon’s sales fees.

Yes, it’s possible. I’d suggest you look around at some of the blogs using the “crafts” tag, because many of those people sell their crafts on Wp.com and you can copy what they’re doing in terms of the donation button.
It doesn’t need to be a widget, either. You can use it in a post or even in an email, like this:
