photo on facebook.

  1. I linked my wordpress to facebook, and next to my name there is a picture. It's this geometric purple picture that i'm assuming is a default. I changed my avatar picture, but it's not coming up next to my name and the purple picture still exists. does anyone know what i'm talking about, and does anyone know how to change the picture next to your name on posts? sorry if this is confusing.

  2. How did you link to your facebook account?

Maybe the avatar images are cached? Or maybe it is reading the image from gravatar and not from wordpress (I know that WP bought gravatar, but there might be some old bugs, etc.).

Can you post an example or a URL so we can see?

  4. facebook has a wordpress application so i just added the application and then it linked directly to my blogs. i dont think you can see from the url because you need to have a facebook account in order to see my page... i know other facebook users who post blogs who have their pictures on it though... Hmm.

  5. Avatars take awhile to load across WordPress, so wait. I see your avatar here just fine; it'll change on Facebook too.

  6. Ah, that FB app. I looked at it a while ago and it seemed kinda useless to me. I'd love it if it supported basic blogging features such as the other FB blog apps (like Flog Blog, etc.) Such as the ability for the app to automatically ping your blog and update FB instead of having to post the blog entry into FB first, etc.

  7. Does this mean, that anyone can have their blogs duplicated on FaceBook, by joining FaceBook and using this wordpress app?
And is it all that bad an idea? I mean I have heard the search engines don't like duplicate blogs, but my blogstats per day are very low anyway.

  8. Yes, that's what it means and apparently this doesn't count as duplication as far as search engines are concerned, or at least that's what someone who seemed to know said a few months back.

  9. Search engines won't index Facebook because you need to be a member to log into it, etc.

There's lots of applications that let you duplicate your blog. Even apps that publish it to multiple blogs for you, but that's usually just done by sploggers/spammers. I don't know why anyone would want to maintain multiple blogs with the same content. I'd bet that Google will eventually lower your page rank because of it, if they aren't already doing it.

I use FlogBlog app on Facebook to send out/publish a FB feed saying that I've updated my blog, but only my friends see that on Facebook. It means they don't need to visit my blog everyday - that if they want to, then they can click on my update thingy and then view my blog, etc.

  10. Page rank is still academic for me.
Anyway I am enjoying filing all this info into my mind.

  11. Note: your friends can add your blog to their page as well. My sister has mine, and all her friends think she's a brilliant blogger!

  12. @ raincoaster, That Note leaves more questions than answers!

  13. Ask away, I have no answers. I'm only on Linked In.
